CCDD 102915—Sentry Basilisk

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/29/2015 - Turns out there's never been a creature with both vigilance and deathtouch. Not hard to imagine why there aren't a lot of those, but surely one rare or uncommon would be neat.

CCDD 102715—Bad Advice

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/27/2015 - Mechanically, Bad Advice leans a toward red, but I quite like the story it tells as a black card.

CCDD 102615—Honed

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/26/2015 - An alternate casting cost mechanic that rewards mono-colored play. It has a variable, and I imagine the block that introduces it would only set the variable to one or two specific values. It's possible this is undevelopable, but I'm optimistic.

Tesla: Make Common Cause

This article is WotC safe.
Hello again everyone! Last time, the Tesla Project forum debuted, where the discussion from Our Refinery has continued nicely. Over the past week, alongside discussing proposals and alterations for the candidate mechanics, many of us have begun to design example commons for the mechanics - which leads directly into our topic for this week, designing commons for playtesting our mechanics.

CCDD 102015—Apprentice Wand

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/20/2015 - Apprentice Wand helps you to cast the spell you choose to attune it with. It's a very conditional Mind Stone.

CCDD 101915—Wetfall Hedron & Hedron Field

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/19/2015 - A land mechanic that illustrates Zendikar VS Eldrazi, using the flavor of the hedrons. The first card represents a single common, or maybe a single card that's rotated into the basic land slot. The second card is an alternate solution that represents one of five uncommon lands. Neither are close to printable, but illustrate a concept that might have merit.

CCDD 101515—Scar & Bushwhack

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/15/2015 - Here are two very similar takes on the same idea, both of them a more manageable form of wither. While it's very cool the way wither scales with power and can be enhanced by pump effects, it's also much harder to develop around such creatures.

Tesla: Introducing the Tesla Forum

Hello again everyone! Last time, we continued discussion regarding the candidate mechanics for Tesla. This discussion was held in the comments section of the previous week's article, Our Refinery, where we introduced the candidate mechanics in question. This week, I'd like to introduce the Tesla Project forum and continue our discussion of Tesla's mechanics (which has been going very well) over at the forum.

CCDD 101415—An alternative to devoid

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/14/2015 - I'm not convinced devoid was a mistake. Even so, it's an engaging challenge to find alternative solutions to the problem: Make a bunch of colorless creatures without breaking down the segregation of playable cards the color pie offers.

CCDD 101215—Incite Foolishness

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/12/2015 - Top-down from the art. Chaos for one mana… now with actual chaos.

CCDD 100815—Immortality

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/8/2015 - Eon Hub seems perfect for a black enchantment, both thematically and combo-rifically.

CCDD 100715—Pupal Wurm

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/7/2015 - Pupal Wurm is a wurm-tribal card that cares about your wurms living or dead. Because that's a green thing to do.

CCDD 100515—Rock 'n Roll, Primal Improvisation & Create Desperately

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/5/2015 - Three red cards inspired loosely by Wheel of Fortune. Maybe. Probably more by the art. [shrug]

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/1/2015 - Here are three cards I designed while thinking about green's commitment to heritage.

Tesla: Grand Unifying Queries

Hello everyone! Last time, we began refining the candidate mechanics for Tesla. This is an important part of the design process, and it deserves a lot of constant attention. We're going to be spending the rest of design polishing up these candidate mechanics to be the best they can be, so we're going to be using 'Our Refinery', last week's article, as the place for all this discussion. For this reason, this week's article will have its comments closed, and I'd like you all to comment on Our Refinery's comments please.

Now I'd like to shine the spotlight on what I think are currently the most important questions about Tesla's candidate mechanics.
