Cool Card Design of the Day
1/31/2017 - For some reason, when this title popped into my head, it wanted to be seen in three different colors. Which do you prefer?

Match Structure
Currently, match structure at a Magic tournament is this: Play best-2-out-of-3, unless you run out of time. Except 2HG and other multiplayer formats that go long, in which case you play 1 game, until time. Or if it's a feature match at the end of a big tournament, then you play to best-3-out-of-5.
The winner gets 3 points, and the loser 0. Or if it's a draw, 1 each.

1/27/2017 - Here are three takes on a hard counter that costs less than 3, but gives the opponent card advantage or selection.

CCDD 012617—Goblin Upstart
Cool Card Design of the Day
1/25/2017 - In November, I was thinking about how great monstrosity is (because it's a kicker effect that you don't strand in hand waiting for full value). It also makes for a great solution to keeping one-drops relevant later in the game.

Goblin Game 2017
Hey Artisans. Just a heads up. In honor of Goblin Week 2017, tomorrow (1/26) morning I'll be doing my annual Goblin Game on twitter. A quick refresher of the rules*:
*This is a goblin game. All rules are strictly optional.
Once we start, I'll be posting goblin art every 20 minutes over the course of a few hours, along with design restrictions. Reply to the tweet with your design for a red goblin creature that fits within the restrictions. Keep your submission limited to 1 tweet.
That's it. Looking forward to seeing your designs!

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/25/2017 - Here's a vehicle with revolt that can give you two artifacts for improvisation. I was only aiming for the first two, but the latter doesn't hurt.

CCDD 011816—Stern Response
Cool Card Design of the Day
1/18/2017 - Stern Response is comparable to Swords to Plowshares against a 6+ power creature, costing you some life rather than gaining them some. Unless you blocked with an 0/7, in which case it's better. Or unless you're willing to bribe the court to expedite your enemy's sentencing.

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/17/2017 - Looking for effects that work like Pacifism, but aren't. Demophobia causes its victim to experience a crippling fear of crowds.

CCDD 011217—Wild Strength
Cool Card Design of the Day
1/12/2017 - We've seen Healing Salve and Lightning Bolt meet up in Lightning Helix. What kind of damage could you do with Giant Growth and LB? I'm guessing, quite a bit.

CCDD 011117—Multimorphosis
Cool Card Design of the Day
1/11/2017 - Multimorphosis is meant to be a shifter's take on Seeds of Strength. It can only target your own creatures though: otherwise you could kill 1-3 of your opponent's. It's blue and so, appropriately tricky.

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/10/2017 - Using Manamorphose as a model for a 'free' combat trick. Of course, the real trick is whether to cast this before combat or find another instant effect to fuel with it.

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/5/2017 - In a duel, Eager Healer is a symmetrical effect. In multiplayer, it's political capital. In Two-Headed Giant, it's teamwork.

CCDD 010317—Seedcaster
Cool Card Design of the Day
1/3/2017 - I love the way that Eager Construct smooths the game for everyone. The game needs smoothing, and making cards that smooth for everyone but are still worth playing (sometimes) helps make smoothing happen more. That said, fully symmetrical effects can feel a little bad when they help your opponent more than you; So can we make a card that can smooth for everyone that needs it, but clearly benefits its caster most?
