Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist was kind of underwhelming so I made a couple top-down Ludevic designs.
This one was my original idea that I've been batting around for a while. It captures the feeling of creating your own monster in an interesting way, but it's a really clunky ability and there's a lot of ways to interact with it (graveyard exile, bouncing the creature, etc.), so it has a few issues.
This is a more recent design that I'm a bit happier with. This one encourages you to play cheap graveyard interaction alongside cards like
Grenzo, Dungeon Warden and
Tormod, The Desecrator and requires the players to re-evaluate cheap graveyard interaction. On the other hand, I worry that too many "graveyard leaving" effects will make the game a bit too abstract for casual players.
The bottom ability exiles both to save text space on a wordy card, encourage players to seek out more efficient combos, and prevent people from looping cards over and over again.
I love the second version. I would probably mke him mill one, exile a card from your graveyard, but it tickles my deck buildong sensitivities.
ReplyDeleteFirst version is my favorite. Novel and extremely flavorful take on reanimation.
ReplyDeleteRiffing on the second version I wonder about making it more about "reanimator tribal":
Whenever you cast a spell from your graveyard, you may copy that spell.
Whenever you return a permanent from your graveyard to the battlefield, create a token that's a copy of that permanent.
That's a cleaner way to do it, for sure. I'd still want the "once per turn" clause on it because otherwise it's way too easy to go infinite.
