We can make it guaranteed to net something:

Overcharge (You may pay an additional {X} as you cast this spell. If you do, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card with CMC X. You may cast it without paying its mana cost. Put the exiled cards on the bottom in a random order.)

That's damn wordy though. An alternative is just to increase the chance of success (by merging it with manaflow):

Sonic Blast {X}{R}
Sorcery
Sonic Blast deals 2 damage to target creature or player.
Overcharge (When you cast this spell, reveal the top card of your library. If it costs {X}{R} or less, you may cast it without paying its mana cost.)Jay Treathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09428861685923241850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-36382690949091382622013-07-31T10:05:29.398-04:002013-07-31T10:05:29.398-04:00D'oh. A good type of volatility to aim for might be the kind where you usually get something out of it, but you don't know what. Otherwise, the ones where you get to make an educated guess about how much to pay seem better than the completely luck-based hit-or-miss ones.
Chahhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15574587448667619081noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-78254999730440297732013-07-30T14:26:08.962-04:002013-07-30T14:26:08.962-04:00Now that's high stakes!Now that's high stakes!Jay Treathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09428861685923241850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-59260892162065585422013-07-30T12:59:48.820-04:002013-07-30T12:59:48.820-04:00Searing Vision looks like it should be a Pact-like...Searing Vision looks like it should be a Pact-like thing, I think.

Consuming Vision (rare)
0
Sorcery
Color Indicator: Red
CARDNAME deals 4 damage to target creature or player.
Exile the top card of your library.
