The hoops are minor restrictions but not completely empty. However I can see that to make the flavour work out better one might prefer it to say something like "If that creature could have blocked but didn't". But I suspect that has rules problems once you start bringing in creatures with blocking requirements or restrictions.

Would it be better if it just said "target untapped creature"?AlexChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05674122775216494431noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-39155094283648222302015-09-15T12:39:02.843-04:002015-09-15T12:39:02.843-04:00"Cast this during your postcombat main phase ..."Cast this during your postcombat main phase if you attacked. With these sort of "top deck, maybe it works" type things, you shouldn't have to wait for the coin toss. Waiting to see whether or not you're gonna get lucky with that spell you cast isn't fun. I'm one of those adrenaline junkies who loves Kaboom! and clash, and this... I wouldn't want to play it.

How about this;

Enchant creature
Play with the top card of your library face up.
As long as the top card of your library is black, you control enchanted creature.

This way, even in a mono-black deck, you've got the whole "well, lands will make you lose control of it", plus, there's all sorts of funny shenanigans to be had with scry, card drawing, tutoring, and milling, and without the CMC situation, it makes it super quick to check and opens up the possibility to actually build a deck. I mean, you may or may not get control of this guy, it's kind of annoying to cast this on their weakest creature and not even get control of it because you topdeck lands. At least this design you can reach for the sky and try to take Ulamog.Basshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14796834860620921124noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-5860535079520124372015-09-15T10:25:47.019-04:002015-09-15T10:25:47.019-04:00Given Vedalken Shackles, this has to be legit (at ...Given Vedalken Shackles, this has to be legit (at some cost).Jay Treathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09428861685923241850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-75556169796366923052015-09-15T10:24:50.169-04:002015-09-15T10:24:50.169-04:00It could surely be uncommon in terms of power leve...It could surely be uncommon in terms of power level.Jay Treathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09428861685923241850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5479847193762153273.post-72269605590665048522015-09-15T09:49:58.335-04:002015-09-15T09:49:58.335-04:00I like it a lot. I'm a little worried, it may just not do much: black doesn't get very good mind control effects, but it feels like this is likely to take several turns to capture a 3 or 4 cost creature. That's still a decent limited answer, but isn't a bomb.
