Classic Cool Card Design of the Day
What follows is a CCDD that was created before the feature transitioned from the Wizards Wiki to Goblin Artisans. It has been formatted to fit your screen.
2/16/2011 - When designing Teller of Insidious Secrets, I intentionally brought the number of cards gained and life lost in line with Phyrexian Arena, but it's still more like Seizan, Perverter of Truth and that made me hungry for an Arena on a stick. That, and a general wistfulness for Dark Confidant brings us to the utterly unsurprising, but certainly printable, and surely fun Master of the Arena.
I love the flavor of black cards that offer you power at the low, low price of your soul. You can taste that this guy is happy to help you kill your opponents in the knowledge that eventually he'll kill you too and have doubled his investment. I wonder if you could do a Form of the Dragon that turns you into a demon... I guess the various Lich cards are pretty close.
@ArtosKincaid points out that Master of the Arena would be perfectly playable at 2/2 or at 2BB and he's certainly right. I purposely costed him very aggressively to make his creature-ness more exciting. Otherwise, why not just keep him an enchantment?
