Challenge #10: Back to the Future

Happy World Vegetarian Day, designers!  This week's challenge is inspired by the strangest of non-silver-bordered sets: Future Sight.  It featured a whopping 81 timeshifted cards from... the future!  Some of these cards, like Mistmeadow Skulk and Boldwyr Intimidator, have found homes in more recent sets.  But most of them are still waiting for their chance.  Can you give it to them?

For this challenge, you must choose one timeshifted card from this list.  Then, design a card which comes from the same future set.  Between the two cards, the reader should be able to figure out at least one major theme of the set.  Specify the rarity at which both cards will be printed.

You may not pick a timeshifted card that has already been reprinted in an expert-level expansion.  It is also strongly recommended that you select a timeshifted card that could actually see print nowadays.  (For example, Bound in Silence would be a poor choice, since R&D has clearly stated that Tribal was a mistake.)

An example of a good submission for the set Scars of Mirrodin would have been Bloodshot Trainee and Carapace Forger.  Metalcraft tells you about a major set theme, and also suggests the existence of equipment to make Bloodshot Trainee a good fit.

E-mail your cards to by midnight (Pacific Time) on Friday, October 5. The winners will be posted on Monday, October 8. This challenge is open to everyone. One entry per person. Please specify your preferred name or pseudonym. Entries may be edited slightly for consistent templating. If you are interested in having your submission publicly critiqued, put the word "critique" in the subject line of your e-mail.

  1. I'm going to try to resist picking Nessian Courser.

    1. Yeah, that's probably not a wise choice either.
