CCDD 021011—Shambling Symbiont

Classic Cool Card Design of the Day
What follows is a CCDD that was created before the feature transitioned from the Wizards Wiki to Goblin Artisans. It has been formatted to fit your screen.

2/10/2011 - Shambling Symbiont is kind of the anything lord. He boosts your creatures regardless of type. At the same time, he's effectively a */* beater like Scion of the Wild.

This trigger plays differently from the static version "Creatures you control get +1/+1. CARDNAME's power and toughness are each equal to the number of creatures you control." The static version is fully useful at any point in the game, but it's effect is lost immediately when you lose it or another creature. In contrast, Shambling Symbiont is worse the later you can play it, but its effects stick around even after you lose it or one of its buddies.

The triggered version also obviates the need to repeatedly check your creature count and it gives you a visual reminder that your other guys are bigger than they look. The cost is that you need a bunch of counters and many players prefer Magic not to need external bits.

Shambling Symbiont enjoys foreign cinema, long walks on the beach and anything that makes lots of tokens. He's been seen spending a lot of time with Fungal Behemoth lately; members of the press believe they are "an item."

Ha ha. This is totally Juniper Order Ranger. Oh well, at least it costs less.
