CCDD 081314—Eska, Dreamweaver

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/13/2014 - This is the other card with this art I felt was worth sharing.

I'm on the road to GenCon as you read this. If you're going and want to meet, your best bet to find me is at Games on Demand.

  1. Eska's abilities don't gel for me. Maybe the second ability could be something like "-2: Put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of target tapped creature (an opponent controls?)." That way you can put a creature to sleep the turn she hits with the +1, and then make a living nightmare of the 'sleeping' creature on your next turn with the minus ability. (The switch to a lasting copy means she probably drops the red too).
I'd also like if the ultimate tied into dreams/tapped creatures more too. Maybe an emblem that lets you draw a card whenever an opponent's creature becomes tapped.

    1. Requiring the copied creature to be tapped is much better flavor.

Maybe the ultimate can be cheaper and just be "Draw a card for each tapped creature [an opponent controls]."

  2. Activate the 0: ability, create N successive Eskas, cast Bitter Ordeal.

I wouldn't even fix this - it's a fun combo for the kitchen table or Modern if someone really wants to try it.

    1. Don't tokens go directly to exile when they LTB?

  3. This with Doubling Season is pretty much the most epic combo ever. Use the 0 to copy yourself repeatedly, get an arbitrary number of emblems, and draw most of your library next turn! Oh, and by the way, everybody else's teams are tapped.

    1. Does that work? I think each time you make a new copy of Eska, while there will be two tokens, the legend rule will take away one of them before you can do anything with it (plus the original). You can fire off lots of copies of the middle ability, but at the end you haven't actually achieved anything much (except set up a big Gravestorm as Pasteur mentions).

  4. Have a great time at GenCon! And if you or anyone else wants to get a playtest preview of my game Steam Works that's getting published in 2015, swing by the Tasty Minstrel Games demo area :D
