Cool Card Design of the Day
7/22/2015 - Reverberate is a cross between flashback and rebound that rewards an unusual angle in deck-building.

  1. I like this a lot. It does set off nearly every developer alarm bell I have though.

    1. It's definitely challenging to develop. That said, it's actually very comparable to rebound. Both give you a second casting of the spell at no cost, the only difference is when.

    2. What did you think of Rebound in DTK?

    3. (I almost agree with your comparison, but Rebound requires you to cast the spell the first time and Reverberate doesn't. This exploit can probably be overcome somewhat by not printing two Reverberate cards with the same mana cost.)

    4. I feel like this is much more abusable than Rebound. Part of that comes from the fact that you can aim one counterspell (or any other sort of reactive spell) to deal with a rebound spell where as Reverberate needs something like Double Negative or Mindbreak Trap to completely interact with it.

    5. I didn't think about getting the card into your gy without [successfully] casting it. That definitely makes a difference. Hmm.

  2. I like this! I'm all for encouraging unusual angles in deckbuilding. (As opposed to unusual Angels in deckbuilding, but... actually, yeah, that too :) )

  3. This is a very interesting, but potentially dangerous mechanic (because every cost reduction mechanic ever has always worked out poorly). It also creates a challenge not only on what other cards have to be printed in sets to reliably trigger the mechanic but what alternate mana sources (like Llanowar Elves) can/should be printed to deal with the fact that mana curve distributions for decks in limited and constructed will be extremely skewed in order to reliably trigger the mechanic.

  4. First instinct: "What's the most broke-ass thing I can do with this mechanic + Intuition?"

  5. Deck building around CMC? Bold.
