CCDD 070313—Eternal Shade

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/3/2013 - Eternal Shade is like chocolate-covered chocolate. Does anyone need that much chocolate? Of course not. And that's the point.

  1. Even though this is cleaner I prefer the Nirkana Revenant interpretation. I think something about pumping a creature with variable P/T just feels too hard to track, but I'd like to playtest and see if reality bears out my intuition.

  2. At Rare, I feel like this needs more complexity. Perhaps a sort of evasion, Fear or Intimidation might fit. Something that puts it on curve to par with Nightmare.

    2. It has "shade breathing" but I'm thinking more along the lines of combat evasion, something to put all that Power to work.

    3. I feel like you would enjoy this card better if it cost six.

  3. Riffing on your idea. Is this playable?

    Tragic Wisp (rare)
    B
    Creature - Spirit
    */*
CARDNAME has power and toughness equal to the number of untapped swamps you control.

    1. I forget that my creatures are going to die postcombat when I move equipment, and I've been playing competitively for years. This is going to cause WAY more feel-bad moments than I'm comfortable with.

    2. Tragic Wisp (rare)
      B
      Creature - Spirit
      1/1
CARDNAME gets +1/+1 for each untapped swamp you control.

Better? Still too many "oh crap" moments?

    3. Why untapped swamps? Can it count tapped ones?

    4. So, Korlash without the regeneration ability? For B?

  4. I like the idea, but I think it might be confusing to play with.
