Design a creature for this art. Points for:
• Most efficient creature without going over the top.
• Spooky
• Funny
• Novel
• Acting as a creature lord in an unexpected way
• Clever/Satisfying placement in a new/existing world.
I won't be around to give feedback before Monday.

  1. Wolf Hunter 1RG
    Creature - Wolf (Uncommon)
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, put a 1/1 red goblin creature token onto the battlefield.
RG, Sacrifice a goblin: Regenerate all wolves you control.
    2/2
    Flavor text:
"To the goblin, the wolf was a steed that would stike fear in his enemies. To the wolf, the goblin was willingly riding into a den of hungry pups."

    1. Nice! I think I'd prefer +1/+1, +1/+0 or something instead of regeneration for all wolves, but very nice.

    2. I like the core concept.
How would this look if the card were mono-green but the activated ability were mono-red?

    3. Points for efficiency, humor, novelty and sideways-lord-ness.

  2. Weekee, Wolf Tamer 1RRGG
    Legendary Creature - Goblin (R)

At the beginning of your upkeep, if you control fewer Wolf creatures than Goblins, put into play a number of 2/2 green Wolf tokens into play equal to the difference.

    1. I love this trigger.
Not sure I'd change anything about this (other than cleaning up the wording). Maybe it only needs to make a max of one wolf per turn?
Points for efficiency, sideways-lord-ness, and double-points for novelty.

  3. Pack Leader Imp 2RR
    Creature - Imp
CARDNAME's power is equal to the number of wolf creatures you control.
Whenever a wolf creature enters the battlefield under your control, it deals damage equal to the number of wolf creatures you control to target creature an opponent controls.
    */4
Flavor: "The imps are equal parts cruel, devious, and cunning. It was only a matter of time before they found a beast just like them."

I wanted to veer away from goblin with this one. Imp seemed just as plausible based off of the art. An imp that turns your wolves into Flametongue Kavus seems somewhat playable (pending amount of wolves available). I'm wavering between 2RG and 2RR for the mana cost.

    1. All the imps printed in the last 10-15 years have some flying. The flavor will need to explain why this imp doesn't, and how it remains distinct from goblins.

The second ability could be simpler:
Whenever a wolf enters the battlefield under your control, CARDNAME deals damage equal to its power to target creature an opponent controls.

      Points for novelty and sideways-lord-ness.

    Eak Wargrider, Rear General
    1RR
    3/3
    Legendary Creature, Goblin Advisor
Cowardly — if Eak Wargrider, Rear General doesn't attack, attacking goblins you control get +1/+1.
"Eak stationed herself on the biggest warg in front of the line of retreat to ensure everyone else charged. Or so she said."
    – Gob Taleteller, Goblin Historian

I wasn't sure if I could do "spooky", "efficient", "funny" and "lord" all on the same card, but I did my best :) I debated between the valid creature types "advisor" and "coward", since I would love to get coward onto a real card. But I decided "advisor" was the more sensible choice.

The name, concept and flavour text reference Ibb Halfheart, Goblin Tactician, where I loved the flavour. I wondered if I could get a reference to a specific plane, and maybe to an _undead_ warg, but that seemed to be cramming too much onto the card.

    1. Spike might enjoy working out when it's better to attack with Eak and when it's better to keep her back, but many players will be frustrated that their most efficient creature tells you not to attack with it. Then again, new players like keeping guys back and this at least tells them to attack with the other goblins so maybe it works? I doubt it's something we'd want to repeat enough to make an ability word for.

Full points for efficiency and humor, partial points for novelty and world-placement.

  5. Flea-Bag Rider (Uncommon)
    RR
    Creature - Goblin Scout
    2/2
    Non-Goblin creatures get +1/-1.
“Can you imagine anything more irritating than fighting in close quarters with a bunch of goblins?”

    1. Persistently reducing all creatures toughness tends to cost a lot more and be black, but +1/-1 is red and this can be killed by almost any removal spell. Would definitely need to test, but it could work. I do wonder about the non-goblin clause, since playing two or three of these or cloning them (Rite of Replication… shudder) is so powerful.

Efficient, sideways-lord-y, novel, and somewhere between spooky and funny.

    1. Packless Alpha GG
      Creature-Goblin Wolf (R)
As long as no creature you control shares a creature type with another creature you control, CARDNAME and other creatures you control get +1/+1.
      2/2

    2. For a little extra humor:

Make its ability a keyword and name it "Diversity"

    3. Though it makes sense to me that this creature would have both types, goblin and wolf, all the other mount-and-rider cards in Magic just use one type or the other (mostly the rider's). I would support a universal change in that practice, but in the current model, this should be just a goblin. Obviously that would hurt the card's larger purpose.

      I like the concept.

      Efficient, novel, sideways-lord-y.

  7. Moor Baron - 1BR
    Creature - Goblin (R)

Morbid - At the beginning of each end step, if a creature died this turn, you may put a +1/+1 creature on Moor Baron.

When Moor Baron dies, each opponent loses life equal to the number of +1/+1 counters on Moor Baron.

    2/1

    1. A spooky card! Potentially efficient (potentially very efficient, depending on how often you can make creatures die). Fairly novel too.

  8. Goblin Witchdoctor 1B
    Creature-Goblin Shaman (U)
    Deathtouch
Creatures with haste you control lose haste and gain deathtouch.
"Slow and steady kills the beast" - Dirge of Tuktuk, refrain

    1. Clearly this should be part of a 5 card cycle just to make judges squeal with glee when all five are in play.

    2. This is definitely novel. And sideways-lord-y, transforming the commonly-appearing haste of goblins into deathtouch. Not sure it needs to remove their haste; it could just add to it. That would simplify things.

If not, I think it would have to templated more like:
Creatures you control with haste gain deathtouch and can't tap or attack until you've controlled them since your last upkeep.

Efficient, novel, sideways-lord-y, maybe spooky. This design hints at a world, and I don't see any mis-fit with Zendikar, so some points there.

  10. Warg Rider 2RG
    Creature- Goblin Warrior (Rare)

Wolf creatures you control get +1/+1.
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, put a 2/2 green Wolf creature token with "Goblin creatures you control get +1/+1" onto the battlefield.
