CCDD 092315—Gut Reaction

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/23/2015 - Gut Reaction is a red counterspell in the same style as Driven Ransacking. Okay, so it never counters a spell, but it is purely reactionary. It's more about exploring red's response to other wizards' magic. Red doesn't know how to undo what they've done, but it can react quickly: Sometimes cleverly and otherwise violently.

  1. It's not entirely clear whether you get to deal 4 if you choose not to cast the spell, but if not, you should probably specify that it has to be a non-land card with CMC <= the target.

    1. I would like to be able to choose to deal the damage even if the spell is castable, but I'm not sure how to word that reasonably.

  2. Intentional that you can target your own spells with this?

  3. This reads to me more as a conditional burn spell than anything to do with "interacting on the stack", which is not exactly expanding red's slice of the not-burn-things color pie. Especially since you can always deal the damage.

  4. How about using Red's ability to change targets of spells as a counterspell?

Gain control of target instant or sorcery. You may change all targets that instant or sorcery.
