CCDD 101817—Lost in Battle

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/18/2017 - Lost in Battle is vaguely inspired by Settle the Wreckage, but only bounces creatures and is much more symmetrical:

There are a few ways to make this worthwhile: Run cheaper creatures. Run creatures with strong ETB effects that you're happy to re-cast. You can also play this on offense and try to get your opponent to double-block. Lure seems relevant.

As a bonus, please find a hideous implementation of an over-cute idea to the right:

  1. Ah, nice.

I like the attempted symmetry, but it seems like "don't block and play this" breaks the symmetry trivially, making that mode that much stronger than the others. I'm not sure, does having the flexibility make the other modes more worthwhile?

I tried to think of a more directly symmetric card and couldn't though, the existence of settle the wreckage suggests this may be about right.

I wonder if the modal version could be worded like strive. "Laze -- CARDNAME costs RW more to cast for each mode not chosen. Choose any number" or "2UWR Strive CARDNAME costs RW less to cast for each mode chosen beyond the first." :)

    1. Pay-More-To-Choose-Less-Modes seems like something only a Melvin could love. Especially with just two modes, it's surely much better to do it this way:

      Kicker RW
Return all blocking and blocked creatures to their owners' hands. If ~ was kicked, instead return all blocking and blocked creatures you don't control to their owners' hands.

      Kicker RW
Return all blocking and blocked creatures you don't control to their owners' hands. Unless ~ was kicked, return all blocking and blocked creatures you control to their owners' hands.
