Cool Card Design of the Day
9/14/2012 - Fungal Sprouting rewards you for having a big creature. That's a good thing. Players enjoy big creatures and it does the game good to reinforce fun strategies. That said, every* strategy needs a counter strategy, which got me thinking about a version of the card that cares about your opponent's biggest creature. One logical twist later and you've got two new cards:
* Not every strategy needs a counter strategy. But most do and it's never a bad place to look for new possibilities.
I'm curious to hear which of these cards appeals more to you (and why).
I don't get it. Why is my card giving my opponent an out?
ReplyDeleteI like the second part of the first version, but I don't understand the black/sacrifice part.
I was trying to figure out what color reverse-Fungal Growth would be (probably white) when the black twist struck and appealed. It's certainly not required.
DeleteThe first one for me, because i play a ton of multiplayer so that's a very appealing ability. But I've been dreaming up decks with champion of lambholt in it, and the second would be better there.
ReplyDeleteI like the first one but think it would be better if it cost one more, destroyed target creature, and the X was the power of the destroyed creature.
DeleteGives me strong nostalgia for Mercy Killing. I like the first card better, but the tension seems high enough that it might be unfun for both players. There definitely are some players who enjoy "damned if you do/damned if you don't"-style interactions, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the dream scenario for this card?
A-hah! Death Mutation. I knew I could remember the card. If that was 6GB, maybe this *is* right at 3GB. In the average case this would be like a Corpsehatch, but could definitely dovetail neatly with counting-power mechanics in a set.
