CCDD 120414—Miner of Secrets

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/4/2014 - Inspired by Tommy's Helpful Familiar, here's a red Stealer of Secrets.

Arguably, Miner should trigger when it deals combat damage, in which case it should be safe at uncommon. I kind of prefer this trigger for this effect/flavor.

  1. I like it. I think it is fine that it trigger on attacking. If it triggers on damage we're making a red Rare that is strictly worse than a Blue common, and we've really got to stop doing that so frequently.

    This is a nice push, and offers risk takers like you to attack into a 2/3 and hope to draw a burn/bounce spell to clear the way.

    1. I prefer the saboteur version, and would adjust the CMC or P/T to make it not strictly worse than Stealer of Secrets. But I also think this design is uncommon, not rare.

    2. Feels uncommon to me too, other than just adding stats you could add a 2nd ability, perhaps "R, Sacrifice a land: Miner of Secrets can't be blocked this turn." (ala Goblin Tunneler, since the Miner itself has less than 2 power, although I have no idea if that is still a red effect).

    3. Inspired Giant {2}{R}{R}

      Whenever ~ deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.

    4. i think not, it's still a red effect. we have Goblin Tunneler and Dwarven Warriors that can give unblockable effect on a creature with power 2 or less in red already.
      I agree if we should add another abilities for Dwarf to become more like what rare should be.

      Miner of Secrets 2R
      Dwarf Rogue
      ~ must attack each turn if able and can't be blocked except by two or more creatures.
      Whenever ~ attacks, exile the top card of your library. You may play that card this turn.
