Weekend Art Design Challenge 122614—Gilberto March

Weekend Art Challenge
Greetings, artisans! Click through to see this weekend's art and the design requirements for your single card submission, due Monday morning. Every submission warrants feedback, and everyone is encouraged to give feedback. You may use that feedback to revise your submission any number of times, though only the version rendered will be included in the review, if someone volunteers to render the cards.

Design a holiday promo card.
I found this image and thought it perfect except that it's explicitly Christmas (though looking at past cards they definitely lean heavily that way). So Merry Christmas everyone, and happy holidays to non-Christian artisans.

When Geist of St. Nick attacks, put eight green and one red 0/1 Elk creature tokens with “Creatures you control have flying” onto the battlefield tapped and attacking. Exile those tokens at end of combat.

    1. We're already in the land of Un-sets, so maybe (1/2)/1 Elk creatures? Also, the flying is problematic for the colors of the card, but I'm not sure how to retain your vision without it. Imtimidate? It would also make the colors of the reindeer relevant.

    2. The flying problem solves itself if you change Santa Claus to red and white. MTG has existing Caribou tokens too.

Each player sacrifices a creature. Then, each player who sacrificed a creature this way reveals cards from the top of his or her library until he or she reveals a creature card that shares a color with the one they sacrificed and puts it onto the battlefield under another player's control.

+2: Put a nice counter on target creature. Its controller gains 2.
+2: Put a naughty counter on target creature. Its controller loses 2 life.
-7: You get an emblem with "Nice creatures have double strike." and "Prevent all damage that would be dealt by naughty creatures."
    NAME can be your commander.

I'm sure I'm going to hear that mono white doesn't do life loss, but it can and it does. The flavor just has to be judgy and fascist enough. Extort's a hybrid ability for White and Black specifically because they share life loss in the color pie.

    1. Life loss is *not* white. Extort is white because it's very Orzhov, and faction cards tend to be allowed a little color bleed. Otherwise, there are Suture Priest and Inquisitor Exarch, cards from a set with a lot of bleed due to the Phyrexian corruption (Phyrexian mana, Vapor Snag, etc), and Stern Judge, a weird old card that can only cause players with Swamps to lose life. Unless I'm mistaken, no other white cards cause loss of life. I'm actually fine with it here, on a holiday card, but without a specific reason for the set it's in, life loss is not in white's everyday color pie.

    2. So your okay, with the life loss here, but not the way I preemptively defended it? Very meta.

    3. I don't know if I'd call it meta, but pretty much xD The holiday cards aren't exactly meant to be paragons of the color pie, so if you want to give white life loss for flavor reasons on a holiday card that sounds OK to me.

Whenever CARDNAME enters the battlefield, unwrap a sealed magic booster pack and exile all cards from it face-down.

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put a card exiled by CARDNAME into target opponents hand, but only if they've been nice this year.

I wanted to something about "owning" and "controlling" in the text box, so that players could decide if the cards were actual gifts or if they are just temporarily "owned" as far as the rules are concerned. The text ended up looking scrambled and not as simple and cheerful as I'd like, so I figure the potential for this to be used to give cards away permanent is just up to the players to figure out.

When ~ enters the battlefield, open a Magic booster and exile the cards from it face up. Players may play cards exiled with ~.

T: Add 1 to your mana pool.

    1. Alternatively, it could be a Plane card, but dear renderer, please feel free to render the land instead.

      Santa's Workshop
      Plane -- North Pole

When you planeswalk to Santa's Workshop, open a Magic booster and exile the cards from it face up. Players may play cards exiled in this way.

Chaos: Whenever you roll Chaos, add 3 mana of any color to your mana pool.

      ---------------------

PS: I've played very little Planechase, so I'm not sure if the Chaos ability here is way out of whack with what is typical (though a cursory glance suggested they tend, at least, to be quite potent).

    Enchantment (R)
As an additional cost to cast CARDNAME you may open a Magic booster and exile the cards from it face down.
At the beginning of your upkeep, each player may put a random card exiled with CARDNAME onto the battlefield.
