Greetings, Artisans! Go ahead and click through to see this weekend's art and the design requirements for your submission, due Monday morning. Every submission warrants feedback, and everyone is encouraged to give feedback. You may use that feedback to revise your submission any number of times, though if there's any ambiguity as to what your final submission is, I'll make my best guess when doing the renders.
Wrapping up Ooze Week, let's make an Ooze lord.
Good luck, have fun, and enjoy your weekend.
Katesthio, the devourer 4BG
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature - Ooze lord
All other ooze get +2/+2
T: Exile target ooze creature, put X +1/+1 counter on Katesthio, the devourer where X is the exiled creature's toughness.
"when you see him, it's too late"
5/5
Huge!
DeleteInevitable Mass 4GG
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze
Devour 2
When Inevitable Mass enters the battlefield, you may pay 2 life. If you do, put a copy of it onto the battlefield for each Ooze it devoured.
4/4
I like the concept, but this might get pretty complicated. Perhaps even infinite deaths/births.
DeleteYeah, this is definitely for Jennies who like figuring out permutations. It takes two Soul Wardens and a pre-existing Ooze to make an infinite loop, and three to profit from it, which I'm happy with.
DeleteConnective Ooze {1}{G}{G}
ReplyDeleteCreature-Ooze (rare)
If you would put one or more +1/+1 counters on an Ooze, put that many +1/+1 counters on each Ooze instead.
2/2
I like the idea of curving this into Ooze Flux.
DeleteToo bad Ooze Flux doesn't put +1/+1 counters on a 0/0 creature!
DeleteSeeping Slime 3GGG
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze (R)
Whenever Seeping Slime enters the battlefield under your control, destroy target artifact, enchantment, or land.
You may have Ooze creatures you control enter the battlefield as a copy of Seeping Slime.
4/4
I dig this.
DeleteTitanic Blob
ReplyDeleteG
Creature - Ooze - Mythic Rare
Champion three Oozes (When this enters the battlefield, sacrifice it unless you exile three Oozes you control. When this leaves the battlefield, those cards return to the battlefield.)
10/10
I love this one. It's like S.N.O.T. given black-bordered form.
DeleteCatalytic Slime 1GGG
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze (M)
Whenever Catalytic Slime or another Ooze creature you control deals combat damage to a player, put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of that creature.
3/3
Terrifying! Very mythic.
DeleteOmnipotent Ooze {2}{G}{G}
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze (M)
{G}{G}, or pay 2 life, or discard a card, or sacrifice a permanent: Put a +1/+1 counter on target Ooze.
1/1
This doesn't feel like a monogreen card is any set except Phyrexia. Which actually gives me the idea to make it (G/P)(G/P) and drop the cmc by 1 or 2.
DeleteManifold Slime {5}{G}{G}
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze (M)
Whenever CARDNAME or another Ooze creature you control with toughness 2 or greater dies, put two X/X green Ooze creature tokens onto the battlefield, where X is half that creature's toughness, rounded down.
8/8
Should this exclude dying tokens?
Delete... I want to put ALL of these oozes into a deck.
ReplyDeleteDuplicator Slime [3][G][G]
ReplyDeleteCreature - Ooze (R)
Duplicator Slime’s power and toughness are equal to the number of Ooze creatures you control.
At the beginning of your upkeep put a green Ooze creature token onto the battlefield with “This creature’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of Ooze creatures you control.”

ReplyDeleteBloggoth, the Sloppiest 1GGB
DeleteLegendary Creature - Ooze (R)
BG Monstrosity 1 (if this creature isn't monstrous put one +1/+1 counter on it and it becomes monstrous.)
As long as Bloggoth, the Sloppiest is monstrous, Oozes you control have "Remove a +1/+1 counter from this creature: Regenerate it."
3/5

We're clear that you can't re-monstrify Bloggoth after removing his counter, right?

ReplyDeleteI definitely think we'll see a four colored Ooze legend in Commander 2016
DeleteÖber URGB
Legendary Creature - Ooze (M)
Uncounterable, Indestructable
Whenever damage would be dealt to Öber, put that many +1/+1 counters on each ooze creature you control.
Whenever Öber deals damage, put that many +1/+1 counters on each ooze creature you control.
1/1
All that potential to be huge, _and_ it's indestructible? I guess that does solve the "should we delay the trigger so it's clear the counters don't save him from damage" issue. Well, for Ober itself, at least.
DeleteMother of All Oozes
ReplyDelete4GG (rare)
Creature -- Ooze
0/0
~ ETBs with four +1/+1 counters on.
At the beginning of your upkeep, double the number of +1/+1 counters on ~.
{X}{G}, Remove X +1/+1 counters from ~: search your library for an Ooze creature card with CMC X or less and put it OTB. Shuffle your library.
And I'll leave Mother of All Oozes as my submission, but I couldn't resist floating another (not quite finished) idea in case anyone had any suggestions for it.
DeleteAll-consuming Ooze
4GG
4/4
{T}: ~ fights target creature with toughness at least half of CARDNAME's toughness
Whenever a creature dealt damage by CARDNAME this turn dies, put a +1/+1 counter on CARDNAME.
Uh, which should also be "Creature - Ooze" :)
DeleteFighting, but with a toughness check and math and rounding? The band for fights that are profitable for you and existent seems narrow and busy, especially at this P/T. The scaling is neat, but to make this simpler, maybe:
DeleteAppetite Ooze 4GG
Creature - Ooze (r)
T: CARDNAME fights target creature with toughness 3 or greater.
Whenever a creature dealt damage by CARDNAME this turn dies, put three +1/+1 counters on CARDNAME.
6/6
Flavor text of "It enjoys a three-course meal." is probably a little bit too much. Could be a 3/6 or similar if you want to emphasize slowly building rather than "big gets bigger".
Why does it even have a minimum toughness?
DeleteOozedin, the All-Swallower 5GW
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature - Ooze (M)
When ~ etb, exile all other creatures until ~ leaves the battlefield.
~ has power and toughness equal to the number of creatures exiled with it.
*/*
If Phyrexian Rebirth is safe, then this probably should be too (but worth having on its own, as the benefits of being a creature are real, too).
DeleteFor one mana more, we get to add up all their p/t rather than just count them? I'd cost this at ten.
DeleteOne removal spell undoing all your work seems way too risky to be worth it, especially since there's a very real risk of being Boltable if your opponent is going tall instead of wide. Could just nix the "until..." clause and it'd be fair. Not a Lord.
Delete@Jay - I think the P/T setting is equal to the #, not summing them. The X/X wording from Rebirth might make this more clear? I'm not sure.
DeleteBeing able to Natural Order or Chord this in sounds like it could be fun/sweet/playable, even if it's not a game-ender.
Yup. I was dumb/wrong.
DeleteOoze, the Boss 3BUG
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature - Ooze
Creatures you control have power and toughness equal to the number of creatures you control.
Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, put two 1/1 green ooze creature tokens onto the battlefield under your control.
1/1
Was very tempted by the same pun. :)
DeleteI figured I'd cut you all off at the pass there, but eh.
DeleteI actually copy pasted this from a file I have lying around. Didn't realize the title of the challenge.
DeleteAlso, because of that it doesn't have the create wording, so change it to "create two 1/1 green ooze creature tokens."
DeleteBU? I'd expect W if anything other than G.
DeleteYou might have to remove abilities from creatures, or else you'll get multiple P/T-setting abilities sometimes. Not sure. Maybe timestamps handle that.
Is this supposed to be a 1/1 or a */*?
Delete1/1. If it were */* it would have conflicting p/t setting abilities. Incidentally, I don't know Jay. I think it can be settled with time stamp, but they tend not to like that since its messy. For this case, it would remove its own ability from itself unless it said other creatures, which kinda spoils it. As to color, I was was just going off the other legendary ooze, mimeoplasm. This does have a different feel to it though, so I could see W over U but I'd definitely want to keep the B since one of the biggest reasons to do Ooze Lord is for EDH, where black has some of the best contributors.
DeleteMoggan, the Mass 2GG
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature-Ooze
Whenever an Ooze creature deals combat damage to a non-Ooze creature, that non Ooze creature becomes a G 1/3 Ooze creature and looses all abilities.
~'s power and toughness are X, where X is the number of Ooze creatures on the battlefield
X/X
An Ooze Lord is perfect for a grey goo (or green rather) apocalypse as the entire field becomes goo that only feeds him
Exact numbers would be tweaked by development, I experimented with 1/1 Oozes and with all Oozes making creatures copies of themselves, but the former I found was too powerful and the later too complex.
Five cookies to whoever gets the reference.
And sorry for talking your ear off at Washingcon Mr. Treat. I get excited when I talk creativity and get fanboyish.
DeleteHey Jim. It was nice meeting you. You've got a ton of deep ideas and I hope you exercise expressing them through game design, here or anywhere.

A scaling Permeating Mass! Not sure how often this will get to trigger/live the dream, but in a dedicated Ooze deck, maybe it'll do the trick.
DeleteOthgar, the All-Consuming
ReplyDelete4BUG
1/1
If Othgar were to be dealt damage, prevent that damage. Put a +1+1 counter on Othgar for each 1 damage prevented this way
Whenever any creature dies, put X +1+1 counters on Othgar, where X is that creature's power.
Kinda wanted to try to invoke the Blob, starting out small but is completely indestructible, consuming everything
Should also be indestructible. Feels bad when you spend 7 mana on a 1/1 that gets Go-for-the-Throated
DeleteProtection from damage is a pretty sturdy ability - it really might not need indestructible. Probably could be somewhere between 3GG and 4BG as-is, assuming mythic or rare.
DeleteThis is Kresh with protection from damage, which makes it much better against red but isn't able to combo with your own red cards in EDH. Seems solid at its price point.
DeleteAlso not a Lord.
