Ooh, wow. This seems pretty bonkers in older formats, but would probably be very fair in Standard. Definitely sweet flavor though!

I like this, but 2 mana seems low for mono-colored. Maybe 1GG or GW? I know the cost is just reflective of Library, this just seems really strong.
DeleteGlad you added "or more;" I was absolutely going to push for that, since there are so many effects that make a bunch of tokens at once.
DeleteI agree this likely needs to cost three and/or include white (since white has surpassed green as the token-making color), but yeah, this is flavorful and powerful.
I was using Duskwatch Recruiter as more of a guide post on costing. As far as color, card drawing isn't supposed to be in white's color pie even if it does trigger on tokens.

DeleteI would argue that pushing you to use creature tokens extensively is both narrow enough and within white's wheelhouse.

T: Reveal the top card of your library. If it costs less than the number of creatures you control, put it into your hand.
1/1
I like it. Very Bloodline Shaman. Could this be mono green?
DeletePossibly - inspiration was Sindbad, which was colorshifted into Fa'adiyah Seer, so there's an argument. This being strictly better than either, I elected to make it gold.
DeleteNice. Rewards you for playing creatures with more creatures to play, ramping up slowly (in the early game, but fast late). It's also not guaranteed card advantage even with an army. Decent flavor. I like this a lot. Needs to be printed some day. Would definitely remove the blue.

CARDNAME's power and toughness are equal to the number of different creature types among non-Shapeshifter creatures you control.
[Simic watermark]
Dont most Shapeshifters lose the creature type Shapeshifter when they copy another creature? Also, why is she Shapeshifter-racist? Seems sorta unnecessary to me - it's already a cool card.
DeleteI assume the point is that it's ok to copy, but if you have mistform ultimus, it's not 235/235.
DeleteI've considered similar cards. My worry is always older cards where the exact creature type had been altered, and it's not always obvious how many they have. I've usually aimed to do something like, count creatures with a unique creature type, but haven't found a good wording.
I don't see the backwards compatibility as too much of a problem. Creature types haven't had a major round of errata for what, 10+ years? If players don't want to worry about creature type updates, they can just build decks that don't include Zoologist plus those cards.
DeleteNeat ability. Because it's potentially difficult to track, I would make it to a 0/0 with "CARDNAME ETB with +1/+1 counters equal to the number of different creature types among non-Shapeshifter creatures you control" so that you only have to count once.
DeleteI love that this rewards you for having a lot of creatures and a lot of diversity among them. It is absolutely correct to prevent changelings from breaking this card or forcing players to find out how many creature types exist. It is awkward to name and exclude shapeshifters, but I think that's the best solution in a set that already has a bunch of shapeshifteres. For most sets, though, I'd just set a cap:
DeleteCARDNAME's power and toughness are equal to the number of different creature types among creatures you control, to a a maximum of 9/9.
It's a few more words, but less distracting, and also proof against some future Painter's Servant for creature types.

Wood lock apprentice gets +1/+1 if you control another green creature.
Beefy
DeleteI think this could be 1/1 +1/+1 and still be compelling, though I wouldn't be shocked if Dev pushed it to 1/2 for reasons. Nice simple effect/flavor.

Draw a card for each different power amongst creatures you control.
Sweet flavor
DeleteThis is awesome. Incredibly unique, kudos!
DeleteThank you! I was amazed when something so simple occurred to me.
DeleteI'd want reminder text on this so it's crystal clear what it means, but yeah, this is a nice challenge for Jenny, and a fun new way to do green card draw: It cares about creatures, power, and diversity!
DeleteUndergrowth Curator 4GG
ReplyDeleteCreature - Human Shaman (u)
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control with power 2 or less, then draw cards equal to the power of target creature you control.
2/2
On its own, Undergrowth Curator is a 3/3 for six plus three cards. With other creatures, she can spread her power out a little and potentially draw you even more cards. But she can't put a counter on the big creature you're choosing to draw cards from. That's a little complicated, which would be fine if it told a clear story, I'm mostly confused.
DeleteI'd happily play this over Soul's Majesty as a player. As a designer, I'd like this to be simpler, more focused, or more thematically self-evident.

Whenever you draw a card, create a 1/1 green and white Cuddly creature token.
2/2
Heh. She's human-sized, but makes at least one 1/1 each round. I like the flavor tie-in to card drawing, though GW are kinda the worst at that, and I'm not sure the animals love her /because/ of her books, but eh, close enough. Would probably simplify Cuddly to Squirrel, y'know, for backwards compatibility.
DeleteDefinitely should be to squirrel. White is bad at drawing, but green is actually really good at card draw. Also, these is the kind of card draw that White gets into, Bygone Bishop/Mentor of the Meek. The idea is she's reading the books to the animals which makes her audience bigger. Its a play on Disney's sing to the wilds trope.
Delete"Disney Princess" was my first reaction to this art. Well done.
