CCDD 011217—Wild Strength

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/12/2017 - We've seen Healing Salve and Lightning Bolt meet up in Lightning Helix. What kind of damage could you do with Giant Growth and LB? I'm guessing, quite a bit.

In fact, I'd bet money Dev puts this up to {1}{R}{G}. At least the numbers would line up.

  1. At least it doesn't draw three cards :)

Yeah, that's a really cool design. I do suspect it's surprisingly strong, there don't seem to be any pump-plus-burn spells, and I remember burn-plus-burn spells being stronger than they first looked.

  2. I would put that at sorcery, or combat in it's limited format is going to be very skewed around that card.

  3. This would have to cost more, be a sorcery, or be a rare to not be busted in Limited.

I could see this in a Commander type product that was not meant to ever be drafted however.

  4. You know a card's busted when one of its *least* powerful modes is a Searing Blaze with landfall.

  5. Possibly not broken:

    Dark Growth BG
    Instant
Target creature gets +3/+3 until end of turn.
Add BBB to your mana pool.

  6. Healing Burst 1G
    Instant
Target creature gains +3/+3 until end of turn.
    Gain 3 life.

  7. Isn't this Consume Strength but much much better?

    1. This card is much better than Consume Strength (and I think Jay would admit it is unprintably strong), but effect wise it is a little worse against 4/4s than Consume Strength.

I think this kind of card would be cool for cube, where combat tricks are almost all not strong enough to play, but something like this would be.

  8. Reminds me of how sad I was that Darigaaz's Charm only gives you a 1-mana effect after you paid 3 mana for it. Seeing the discussion here, I realise it would be rather excessive to get all 3 effects :P

(Though a Darigaaz's Charm giving you "choose two" of those 3 might be exciting without being utterly broken.)
