CCDD 053017—Challenger's Glory et al

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/30/2017 - Normally, retrace is only appropriate on sorceries and instants because we don't want the same creature coming back too many times, but there's another permanent type that's infamous for its transience. What happens if we put retrace on auras?

While these all happen to be one-mana hybrid commons, the only thing important to being retrace auras is they aren't designed to keep the creature they're on alive very long; otherwise having retrace won't matter enough.

If you feel like designing another member of this cycle, the comment section awaits.

  1. What a great call putting retrace on auras!!

I don't like Spy's Glory - I think it's too much of an upgrade over Curiousity/Keen Sense, so I chose to (sort of) flip that one around.

    Rogue's Glory
    U/B
    Enchantment - Aura - Common
    Enchant creature
Whenever enchanted creature attacks, defending player may discard a card. If he or she doesn't, enchanted creature gets +1/+0 and is unblockable until end of turn.

    1. Maybe: Defending player discards a card. If they discard a land card, enchanted creature gets +1/+0 and is unblockable until end of turn.

    2. Considered it, but was worried that was potentially too strong too. Then again, Ravens Crime existing and it being an Aura combine to suggest that it can probably be safely pushed.

  2. I worked on a complementary cycle to these, but wasn't particularly happy with my results. The best of the bunch:

    Lab Rat's Dread {UR}
    Enchantment - Aura (u)
    Enchant Creature
{UR}: Change a target of target spell or ability to enchanted creature.

    1. Possible I snagged all the low-hanging fruit.

This is a good one. Tempted to make it a static ability: "All spells and abilities must target enchanted creature if valid."
