CCDD 091620 - Ajani, True Companion

There's no reason this had to be Ajani-- it's a very bottom-up design, inspired by cards like Serra Avatar and Touch of the Eternal-- but I think it fits his character. And it was easy to find art for, which is nice for planeswalker card renders.

CCDD 092218—Hale Hydra

Cool Card Design of the Day
Hale Hydra is meant to be compelling to Tammy and new players without being over-complicated.

CCDD 071718—Cruel Master

Cool Card Design of the Day
I took a design test (for a non-Wizards company) today, and here's one of the cards I didn't submit.

CCDD 062917—A Still Moment

Cool Card Design of the Day
6/29/2017 - Proactive Fog with hints of Congregate.

I'd guess this is too good for turbo-fog, if only that deck ran creatures.

CCDD 032317—Sorting Hat

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/23/2017 - Top-down Jenny strangeness.

CCDD 010517—Eager Healer

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/5/2017 - In a duel, Eager Healer is a symmetrical effect. In multiplayer, it's political capital. In Two-Headed Giant, it's teamwork.

CCDD 122916—Call to Stand

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/29/2016 - Divine Favor as a combat trick.

CCDD 122716—Sword Prayer

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/27/2016 - As a sorcery, this isn't a combat trick, but it can turn a losing race in your favor.

CCDD 123115—Find Beauty

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/31/2015 - I'd like green to have a little bit of incidental life gain in each block. Time to Feed and Aerial Predation are great examples. Found a spot for another.

CCDD 082415—Uproot Memory

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/24/2015 - A white-blue common mill card.

The inspiration was the realization that mill decks care more about life gain than most other decks.

CCDD 022014—Bed of Leeches

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/20/2014 - I was made to remember recently a card designed for M13GA that I was quite fond of, but that didn't make it into the final file for reasons other than design quality. It's not a strong card by any measure, but it is flavorful removal that gets the job done …for a ton of mana. And on very rare occasion, it will be better than Murder or Doom Blade.

That's exactly what I want out of a bad card.

CCDD 121213—Bronze Phylactery

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/12/2013 - I started this design just trying to make a mana sink, something to do with your spare one or two mana each turn. Something compelled me to add a commitment of existing life points, but that didn't fit the original idea, so I broke them out and they're completely different now.

CCDD 071613—Rosemail Armor

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/16/2013 - Oakenform is a nice clean card and while it is entirely Limited-playable, cards like Moldervine Cloak and Boar Umbra show that it could also do a bit more. Given that pure lifegain tends to be terrible in green, I propose killing two birds with one stone. Or rose.

CCDD 042613—Blood Vial

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/26/2013 - If you played Magic when the original Mirrodin was out, or if you bought Archenemy, you should recognize Sun Droplet. This is an adorable card that casual players really like because it effectively gives you, the player, regeneration. I certainly have fond memories or knowing that if I can just stall long enough, I will heal any amount of damage you send my way.

Blood Vial plays in a very similar space, but in a darker way…

CCDD 020813—Soul Ooze

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/8/2013 - There are no white OozesCrusader of Odric and Ajani's Pridemate are about as close as you get to white creatures that work like oozes, but I'm looking for a literal creature-type Ooze. What would a white ooze look like?

<dreamSequence waveyLines='true'>

Our theoretical white Ooze pretty much has to key off of either creatures entering the battlefield or life gained. Cathars' Crusade mechanically oozes your team but is just an enchantment. Juniper Order Ranger is very oozey, but again, neither mono-white nor technically an Ooze. I might've mocked one up like this, except Champion of the Parish is already doing it better.

CCDD 082812—Healing Path

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/28/2012 - I know from experience that many of you enjoy doing a bit of armchair Development. I know I do. So here's a little challenge. Your task is to find the perfect numbers for a Rampant Growth that also gains life.
