CCDD 092612—Necrotic Nexus

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/26/2012 - I know team-pump hasn't been in black's slice of the color pie for ages, but I still miss Bad Moon. Necrotic Nexus was a top-down from the art a long time ago and looking at it now, I can see where I was going with it—the evil power of the nexus strengthens your dark minions and gives you terrible knowledge, but at an inhuman price—but it feels wrong. The two effects don't seem to jive mechanically and feel stapled together. What do you think?

  1. I don't miss Bad Moon so much as I miss Darkest Hour.

It seems like these days "Black creatures" would be whatever the black tribal is for the given block. I could totally see this with "Rat creatures you control get +1/+1" and the second ability as-is, but Zombie or Vampire wouldn't be a far cry.

I wouldn't worry about the card being inelegant - this sort of rare looks like just what the developer ordered in modern design.

  2. False Flag WB
    Enchantment. R
As an addition cost to cast False Flag, sacrifice a creature.
    Creatures you control get +2/+1.

  3. Hey! That is an image from PoxNora. Quite a nice game. It is on the rune called temple of brutality, and it doubles melee damage in that game. I really like your design.

  4. Wow. Forget the pump. If I'm playing this, it's so I can start getting extra cards every turn, probably with creatures like Viridian Shaman and Perilous Myr I want to die anyway. 1BB for that effect is quite good.
