CCDD 112712—Ashen Furnace

Cool Card Design of the Day
11/27/2012 - Loosely inspired by the Ruins of Trokair cycle and Lake of the Dead, Ashen Furnace turns out to be a sort of reverse Dust Bowl.

I was about to suggest that a card like this should maybe be red, but it turns out that "sacrifice a mountain: add some R to your mana pool" doesn't exist. Mana Seism is the only red card like that. (Goblin Clearcutter and Orcish Lumberjack specifically require Forests.) Squandered Resources is the closest card but is Jund at best. Thus, your bonus card:

And because this line got me thinking about other seemingly obvious mana spells, I offer one more bonus card. If planeswalkers can cast our spells, we should be able to cast theirs:

  1. Ashen Furnace
T: Add 1 to your mana pool.
T, Sacrifice X Mountains: You gain X additional main phases this turn.

    1. Could the rules support getting a phase on your opponents turn? Would it matter if it was just the upkeep phase, or just the combat phase?

  2. Ashen Furnace is great.

Simultaneous Eruption is flavorful, great, and broken.

  3. This is such a helping guide for checking furnace health. Everyone must follow these steps. Heating and Cooling York
