CCDD 012314—Sever Ties

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/23/2014 - In his article today, Jacob Van Lunen wrote "Being able to interact with the opponent's board on the same turn we clear out his or her hand is almost always going to result in victory." I didn't want to mess with "Discard X and sacrifice X" but I did want to explore in the space of potentially killing cards in play as well as in hand.

The end result is quite reminiscent of Eradicate, but comes from the opposite direction. Ultimately more of a Distress with potential upside.

Looking at this again, I realize it could let a black mage kill an enchantment, which I'm not 100% comfortable with even if it's entirely reliant on discard. Probably wants to cost just {B}{B} and target only creatures. Hmm.

  1. This to me feels like a trap. How often are you going to make an opponent sac anything? I could maybe see it against control in Constructed (in which case, if they have a full hand for a high chance, they'll probably just counter it.) I don't think it'll hit in Limited, where discard is already pretty weak. Eradicate, you know you're at least removing a creature. Here, you might even whiff the discard. I don't like it.

  2. Is it just me, or does the card image look strangely purple?
