CCDD 081518—Killed in the Chaos

Cool Card Design of the Day
It feels great when you can tie an effect that serves a purpose for your game to a strong thematic concept. As the cardname suggests, this story is straight out of Assassin's Creed: No one will see a quiet stabbing in a bustling marketplace.

This is a comeback card. It helps the player who is facing down a huge army to take out its general very efficiently. In that way, it's the opposite of Diabolic Edict.

  1. "Target creature gets -X/-X until end of turn where X is the number of creatures its controller controls."

Borrowing from Death's Approach template. The debate between sorcery vs enchantment is also interesting.

  2. The story this tells would make sense as an instant... but it doesn't fit the flavor to be a combat trick. "Destroy if its toughness is less?" Too red? Cmc is less? Just spitballing ideas here.

    1. "Destroy if its power is less" would make it feel more black, and while it changes its functionality, I think it's fine?

    2. Also gives it more of a "powerless to fight back" feel.

    3. Oh yes, nice flavour. I wonder, could it be an instant that keyed off attacking creatures? That would fit the 'confusion' flavour better.

  3. I love this for a "stabbing caesar" flavor.
