Weekend Design Challenge 062020 - Extremely Common

Hello Artisans! Click through to see this weekend's design challenge. Your mission is to design a custom magic card that follows the guidelines. Over the course of the weekend, give feedback to your fellow designers on their designs and incorporate their feedback to iterate on your own. I'll try to offer some feedback of my own starting on Monday.

Colossal Dreadmaw was reprinted in Core Set 2021-- its sixth printing in under three years (or fifth if one doesn't count Mystery Booster). It seems to have become the signature "generic big green common creature". Design a common noncreature card that could show up in six or more sets over three years. Bonus points for making it a) as distinct from existing cards as possible, and b) as obviously appealing to reprint as possible.

Good luck and have fun!

  1. Returning Honor 1W
    Enchantment Common
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if it entered from exile, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

A pretty generic flickering payoff that also can fit into a +1/+1 counter deck. Makes it just a bit easier to flicker a creature with counters already on it and feel less bad.

    1. Neat design! At common, this text box would likely go on a creature rather than an enchantment-- that way it still does something in a deck or hand without flicker effects. Unfortunately that's the case with most non-Aura enchantments, which is why we don't see many of those at common.
