Cool Card Design of the Day
4/28/2016 - Hydra Grub will occasionally be stranded in your hand in Limited. Other times, it will win you the game. In Constructed, it should be a big deal quite often. Take a look.
I was a bit surprised the first ability's never been done. Almost every set for the last decade has a dozen or two cards that Hydra Grub would absolutely adore.
The second ability is a new take on "hexproof until you've gotten value from this."
It has a lot of build around me potential, to be sure.
ReplyDeleteI would probably like it more as a 1/1, but I can see the argument against it. In the right limited environment this can be a house.
It also opens the doors to many other abilities: it has X until it deals combat damage, where X could be
defender, trample, flying...
Doesn't work here, but on most cards I would say "~ has (ability) as long as it has no +1/+1 counters; when ~ deals damage, put a +1/+1 counter on it" so you don't have to deal with memory issues.
ReplyDeleteAvatar of the Resolute is the similar design I couldn't find before. Good reference.
ReplyDeleteThere's also Fungal Behemoth which is similar.
DeleteIs the flavor on the second ability that it's sheltered until it goes out and hunts? Or that a parent protects it? I don't quite get it.

As long as it isn't renowned, CARDNAME has hexproof.
