CCDD 090916--Flesh-Eating Ooze

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/9/2016 - Finishing out Ooze Week, I present three top-down design attempts at this sweet MattDeMeno illustration. Let's go through the possibilities...

This first one is the simplest, but encroaches dangerously on white's mechanical territory and isn't quite a flavor home run. Simple is good, but is it good enough?

This aura isn't technically an ooze, but the effect is flavorful and potentially very useful (though in practice it will often underwhelm).

This last one doubles-down on the first design, but uses power/toughness-matching to give it a green spin.

  1. It doesn't fit with this art, but the first one makes me think about a Banishing Bramblecrush ooze.

    Hedgewound Ooze 2GG
    Creature - Ooze
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, exile target noncreature permanent until CARDNAME leaves the battlefield.
    3/3

    For the third one:

    Ooze Control 3GG
    Enchantment - Aura
    Enchant creature
    You control enchanted creature.
Enchanted creature is a green Ooze with power and toughness equal to its mana worth and loses all abilities.

Probably better as a RG or UG design than in mono-green.
Mixing the two - worse against lands, but higher upside:

    Encroaching Slime 2GG
    Creature - Ooze (r)
When CARDNAME enters the battlefield, exile target noncreature permanent until Ooze Control leaves the battlefield.
CARDNAME gets +X/+X, where X is the exiled permanent’s mana worth.
    1/1
