CCDD 040313—Lightning Wake

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/3/2013 - My day disappeared again so instead of jabbering on, I'll leave this as an exercise for the reader. This card seems pretty busted. How would you improve it?


  1. Sadistic Necromany 4B
    Sorcery (U)
    Return all creatures from your graveyard to the battlefield, then sacrifice those creatures.

    I seems like this is the type of Johny card that benefits from being made just for Johnny. Letting creatures live through it helps Spike, but that's obviously not who this card is for.

  2. Necromancy of the Fittest 3GB
    Sorcery (R)
    Exile all creature cards from graveyards with power 3 or less, then return all creature cards in graveyards to the battlefield under their owners' control.
    "Only the strong re-survive"

    I went the other direction, seeing this as a way to selectively reanimate fatties.

    1. I can dig that, but then I'd really play up that aspect:

      Return of the Fittest {2}{b}{g}
      Sorcery (U)
      Return the creature card with the highest power among all graveyards to the battlefield under your control. (You choose in case of a tie)


      Nayan Necromancy {4bG}
      Sorcery (R)
      Return all creature cards with 5 or more power from all graveyard to the battlefield under your control.

      It's just cleaner to talk about what you are bringing back, instead of what you aren't.

    2. I love Nayan Necromancy, that's exactly the kind of card I was going for.

  3. Lightning Wake 1BBR
    Whenever a creature enters the battlefield, CARDNAME deals 3 damage to it.
    At the beginning of each players upkeep, that player returns all creature cards in their graveyard to the battlefield tapped.

  4. Valhalla 2RWW
    Enchantment (M)
    At the beginning of each player's upkeep, each creature that player controls fights another target creature.

    At the beginning of each player's end step, each player returns to the battlefield all creature cards in his or her graveyard that were put there from the battlefield this turn.

    Not sure what someone could use it for, but it looks cool. Originally had it asymmetric but this might be more interesting.


  5. Lightning Wake 1BBR
    Whenever a creature you control dies, you may pay {R/B}, if you do return it to the battlefield tapped then ~ deals 1 damage to you and each creature you control.
    "Playing with lightning is a dangerous game."
