Weekend Design Challenge 08282020 - No Judge Free-For-All

Happy Friday, Artisans! Click through to see this weekend's design parameters. With those as your guidelines, design a custom magic card. Over the course of the weekend, give feedback to your fellow designers on their designs, and incorporate their feedback to iterate on your own. If I have time over the course of next week, I will try to offer some of my own feedback.

CCDD 020519 - Distortion Sentinel and Eldrazi Design Principles

Good morning, Artisans. I was thinking about Eldrazi today, so I decided to come up with one. Unfortunately, I've internalized a number of Eldrazi design principles, some of which I extrapolated from Rise/Battle for/Oath/Eldritch, some of which I just made up, but they do make our friendly unfathomable extraplaner weirdos difficult to make.

CCDD 070617—Gangling Refractor

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/6/2017 - Getting to copy your opponent's kill spell seems like a more fun twist on the kind of spell protection Glyph Keeper offers.

CCDD 022416 Late-Nite Edition -- Eldrazi-Bone Gurney

There was a lot going on in today's denoument-installment of the story formerly known as Uncharted Realms, but my brain wouldn't let go of the idea of Chandra using a piece of Ulamog as a chair while she recovered. I especially liked the idea of it paralleling Dragon Throne of Tarkir in some way.

CCDD 101915—Wetfall Hedron & Hedron Field

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/19/2015 - A land mechanic that illustrates Zendikar VS Eldrazi, using the flavor of the hedrons. The first card represents a single common, or maybe a single card that's rotated into the basic land slot. The second card is an alternate solution that represents one of five uncommon lands. Neither are close to printable, but illustrate a concept that might have merit.

CCDD 101415—An alternative to devoid

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/14/2015 - I'm not convinced devoid was a mistake. Even so, it's an engaging challenge to find alternative solutions to the problem: Make a bunch of colorless creatures without breaking down the segregation of playable cards the color pie offers.

Weekend Art Challenge
Greetings, artisans! Click through to see this weekend's art and the design requirements for your single card submission, due Monday morning. Every submission warrants feedback, and everyone is encouraged to give feedback. You may use that feedback to revise your submission any number of times, though only the version rendered will be included in the review, if someone volunteers to render the cards.

CCDD 060215—Ulamog's Gorger (Bloodfeast)

Cool Card Design of the Day
6/2/2015 - Here's another way for spawn to matter differently in the new Zendikar. Sacrificing them not only brings your battlecruisers online earlier, but makes them bigger too. A few points of added toughness will often make a huge difference on a card like Ulamog's Gorger.

CCDD 060115—Unfeeling

Cool Card Design of the Day
6/1/2015 - Spawn tokens helped players cast Eldrazi when they rose, but it would be a little boring if they worked the exact same way when we return to see how the battle is raging on Zendikar. One simple way to iterate on them is to make them even better at accelerating your giant monsters.

Zeffrikar This or That 1: Ramping into Madness

Sometimes the discussion that broader design pieces generates results in a lot of disjointed conversations in the comments. There are a number of issues raised in BfZ threads that I'd like to continue with a more focused approach. First up is going to be a good look at my manabond mechanic.

CCDD 052715—Eldrazi Adolescent

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/27/2015 - How do Eldrazi spawn grow into monstrous titans? Horribly, violently, and unpredictably.

Zeffrikar Exploratory Design Part 3: A Lack of Color Here

There are a few more mechanical areas that we need to explore before we start selecting keywords for the final count. Today I'm tackling some land mechanics for the set to dabble in, and taking a look at the needs and wants of the inscrutable Eldrazi.
