CCDD 043018—Clonelet

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/30/2018 - I wanted to make a cheap Clone that could only copy small creatures. Mocking that up gave me a couple more ideas. (Treat the following cards as rare, for complexity, like Clone.)

CCDD 120616—Family

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/6/2016 - Doubling Season for nontoken creatures… that you have to pay mana for… and ignores counters. So it's nothing like Doubling Season. But hey, free clones!

CCDD 120116—Psy-Clone

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/1/2016 - A single-turn clone.

CCDD 052616—Adopt & Emulate

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/26/2016 - I originally made Adopt from this art. When I realized there had never been a Clone aura, I made the simpler Emulate. Rare for complexity.

CCDD 021716—Cassandroid

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/17/2016 - A Future Sight Clone.

CCDD 031815—Baloth Pup

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/18/2015 - Today's card is inspired directly by jack’s Daughter of Angels. I considered having Baloth Pup look for a specific card—Rumbling Baloth or something—but while that design has play value in its Limited environment, it'll never make a player feel clever. This version will.

CCDD 022615—Larval Mimic

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/26/2015 - Clone is powerful because it can copy anything, even Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Copying effects are fun and interesting, so it's unfortunate that we see them infrequently because of their power. (Complexity is an issue too, but it's not going anywhere.) Here's a thing.

CCDD 020315: Doppelganger Nemesis

It's Doppelganger Week over on facebook, so I put up this uncanny resemblance for my profile picture. In any case, the international holiday of immense importance inspired today's design.

CCDD 073114—Spawning Toad

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/31/2014 - Spawnwrithe definitely deserved to come first. It's more fun because it's more interactive. That said, if Pack Rats are okay to print, a card that's a compromise between the two might be promising too. Mostly though, I just wanted a creature that you could cast every turn.

CCDD 021114—Face Eater

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/11/2014 - Like Body Double, Face Eater is a nasty shapeshifter that's still blue as long as the context of her set is dark enough. (Could otherwise be {U}{B} I suppose.)

CCDD 102413—Identity Thief

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/24/2013 - Identity Thief is just a Mind Control that's countered by Essence Scatter instead of Negate. And is an awesome shapeshifter, that also copies its target's ETB and LTB effects. And when you Doom Blade it, you get your creature back.

CCDD 090313—True Potential

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/3/2013 - I did some travelling yesterday that afforded me the chance to catch up on some Drive to Work podcasts (Hey, I just found someone's been transcribing them. Nice!) The most inspiring one was he discussion of blue, which led to several designs I'll share soon. Today's card plays into blue's belief that, with time and dedication, anyone can become anything.

CCDD 080813—Essence Reflection

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/8/2013 - Enchantment/Aura copying/token-making is generally avoided because there haven't been any good ways to mark what's what and avoid memory issues so far. I'm honestly not sure how you could do that as a multi-card mechanic. Essence Reflection is a shot at doing it on a single rare.

CCDD 053113—Rippling Reflection

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/31/2013 - Moar CLONES!

Specifically, Rippling Reflection lets you clone a creature for just a turn, duplicating its ETB triggers and possibly more if you clone with discrimination.

CCDD 040213—Fiery Likeness

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/2/2013 - It's been a nasty day at work, so I'll put something cool and self explanatory here today.

CCDD 041511—Clockwork Resurrection

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/15/2011 - I know you've seen a lot of Clone variants from me over the last couple months. This isn't the last, either (though it may be the textiest), but I swear it's just a fad. While I certainly enjoy copy effects, I have no special love for them, it's just that when a designer starts thinking about variations on a theme, each iteration begets another and so you tend to hit a lot of similar notes over a period of time. If I'm still posting a clone variant every week next year, I invite you to call me a dirty, dirty liar. For the time-being, I invite the ladies to call me a dirty, dirty boy.

CCDD 020911—Fleeting Reflection

Classic Cool Card Design of the Day
What follows is a CCDD that was created before the feature transitioned from the Wizards Wiki to Goblin Artisans. It has been formatted to fit your screen.

2/10/2011 - In his article, Fight Club, Part 1, Mark Rosewater listed "When Attack, Sacrifice At End Of Turn" creatures as being both red and blue. Thinking about that inspired this card. I love Clone and all its ilk, so I'm always on the lookout for new variations on it. This one chain-inspired a black-red version I'll share another day.
