CCDD 010616—Mardu Downrider

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/6/2016 - Top-down. Went Mardu just because I needed a tribe name to proceed Downrider. That gave me good flavor text though.

Prodigal Pyromancer with risk. Ashmouth Hound++.

Seriously tempted to make it "target tapped creature" both for flavor and to give the opponent 'outs' but this is cleaner and while strong, I don't think it's too strong.

  1. Seems strong; then again, Goblin Medics' heyday was when creatures were much weaker.

  2. I think this is a pretty reasonable design, and I'm very glad you made it Uncommon and not Common.

On a more general note: I like when one toughness means something, so that a 1M 2/1 and a 1M 2/2 aren't the same card, but I don't like it when the thing one toughness means is that you get randomly hosed by stuff like Twin Bolt and Geistflame. Finding the right set where this falls at the right point on that spectrum is definitely a tough (but I think dooable) challenge for development!

  3. Is that a heart-piercer bow that she's holding? ;)

I like the card as is, being less oppressive than Prodigal Pyromancer since the opponent can easily block and trade.

    1. I knew the effect felt familiar, but I couldn't place it! Fantastic that it's not just the same set, but the same clan.

    2. I was absolutely sure you was specifically designing a Mardu with Heart-Piercer Bow equipped. Funny.
