CCDD 033016 -- Cluebombs

Cool Card Design of the Day
03/30/16 - I'm a big fan of clues in SoI (although I'm still not convinced Investigate was necessary as a keyword), and I really like that there are a few cards that care about them as a subtype. I thought it would be interesting to make some nontoken clues (which include the cantrip ability).

For your consideration:

  1. I think these would generate a lot of confusion over whether they could be investigated into play (and from where). Not sure how to address that.

    1. Agreed.
Despite the fact that we make bear tokens and zombie tokens all the time without thinking that means we can make an Alpine Grizzly or whatever.

    2. If investigate wasn't a keyword action, and putting clue tokens OTB was spelled out in each instance instead, would you have the same concern?

    3. I'd guess it's a 5/10 concern with the keyword and it'd be just a 3/10 without. It has something to do with the uniformity of non-creature tokens/counters: All gold, all spawn, all poison, all scions identical.

  2. In retrospect the Scars version of spellbombs would have been a better template than the Original Flavor Mirrodin.
