CCDD 072616—Temporal Refraction

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/26/2016 - Here's a quirky card draw spell. It can draw you a ton of cards, but many decks would just prefer Divination. And that's good.

  1. I had thought of an identical card, but it costed U... I thought it was akward card selection. But need it to prowess/when cast sorceryes sinergies... I think 1U could be negotiable... but i don´t know.

    1. Hard to say without playtesting.

      It's like Whispers of the Muse without the option to not buy it back.

  2. This card is interesting, but I worry it's too powerful (it's like a Jayemdae Tome or Azure Mage that's harder to remove and has no initial setup cost).

    Here's a card that I ended up thinking of because of it:

    Temporal Lurch {2}{U}
    Sorcery (R)
    Exile your hand face-down, then draw that many cards.
    Put the cards you exiled on top of your library in a random order.

    I'm not sure if it should be a different colour, or if you should be able to control the ordering. I like the random ordering because it reduces analysis paralysis and in a friendly game removes the temptation to ask the other player to let you look at your cards because you forgot the order.

    1. It is harder to answer than Tome and Mage, and has no setup cost. Those are significant advantages. It (can't deal damage, and) clogs up your hand when you've got more spells to cast than mana. That disadvantage will be bigger in some decks/situations and smaller in others. Safe to say, where this is best, it's very very strong, quite possibly too strong.

      Mostly, players are going to want to shuffle (or mill) after Temporal Lurch (which is fine—Refraction has that aspect too). The random ordering is definitely better.
