CCDD 071918—Exploit Disorder

Cool Card Design of the Day
Here's another. This card was designed to be a two-for-one, and appealing in that regard. But automatic, guaranteed two-for-ones are boring, so I found a pair of related states we could craft some removal around.

CCDD 091117—Fueled by Pain

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/15/2017 - The impetus of this design was to punish your opponent for hurting you and reward you for playing into black's masochism.

CCDD 090417—Caustic Tide

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/4/2017 - I'm traveling today, so I've queued up a CCDD. I'll review the WAC tomorrow, hopefully. Happy Labor Day!

CCDD 050217—Staff of Wisdom

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/2/2017 - Staff of Wisdom is a hybrid between color-fixing like Mana Prism and card advantage like Jayemdae Tome. I was thinking about ways to let a deck play out differently more, and using your opponent's deck is the perfect resource.

CCDD 040517—Give Me a Hand

Cool Card Design of the Day
4/5/2017 - Seeing the red and blue Amonkhet gods got me wondering how you could turn both on at once. The result is an un-card.

CCDD 033017—Tactical Genius

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/30/2017 - Tactical Genius wants you to attack, or for your opponent to attack, or both. It's stats are tuned for survival: its own and that of enemy attackers. Give her enough combat data, and she'll start churning out plans to help you win the war.

CCDD 022117—Memory Jarhead

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/21/2017 - Memory Jar on a stick. But not Magus of the Jar.

The motivation for this was to make the second half of the jar an event you have to make happen, instead of it happening immediately. Which has upsides and downsides.

CCDD 010417—Mad Whispers

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/4/2017 - Mad Whispers means you never have to choose whether to draw cards yourself or ding your opponent for 2 life with Sign in Blood. Symmetry!

11/25/2016 - Retroactively posting this sorcery tribute to Dark Confidant.

CCDD 092116—Take In the Scenery

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/21/2016 - So this isn't a very green effect (though no bleedier than Survival Cache), but it's clean and simple and fits green's meditative nature.

Tesla: Uncommon Sense

Hi everybody! Last week, we started finalizing the uncommons in Tesla. This week, I want to review some of my favorite uncommon designs from the Multiverse so far, and discuss how they embody some great 'roles' that uncommons should fulfill.

CCDD 080216—Forbidden Knowledge

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/2/2016 - I'd love for this card to be cheaper—even if it needs to be rare—but maybe 3 is cheap enough?

CCDD 072616—Temporal Refraction

Cool Card Design of the Day
7/26/2016 - Here's a quirky card draw spell. It can draw you a ton of cards, but many decks would just prefer Divination. And that's good.

CCDD 031416—Toil

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/20/2016 - Toil is inspired by Clue tokens. Not nearly as versatile, but potentially worthwhile thanks to its own vector of relevance.

CCDD 021616—Magic Reshaper

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/16/2016 - Mono-red riff on Matter Reshaper.

CCDD 121715—Goblin Ritesinger

Cool Card Design of the Day
12/17/2015 - I envision what "Drawblin" might look like after listening to Re-Making Magic episodes 42 and 43.
