CCDD 110518—Moon Dial

Cool Card Design of the Day
This is strictly better than a Manalith and I think it's totally printable.

CCDD 100818—Brass Once Land

Cool Card Design of the Day
Here's a slightly radical land design.

CCDD 091018—Gold Mine

Cool Card Design of the Day
What should a gold mine look like in Magic? We know what gold is, and we know the card's a land. The trouble is that gold can put players ahead on mana in a way we're not comfortable with our land doing, particularly not repeatedly (which is what we expect from a mine).

CCDD 112117—Gem token

Cool Card Design of the Day
11/15/2017 - Sometimes treasure tokens let us cast a spell a turn or two early and that's fun and powerful. Powerful enough that access to treasure is limited at low mana costs, especially at common. Which limits how often treasure tokens are used to make up for missed land drops or to fix your colors when you'd otherwise be color-screwed. And that's a shame, because Magic often lacks that kind of smoothing.

If treasure didn't accelerate your mana, it could be much cheaper, and more common. Let's explore that.

CCDD 110217—Seeing Eye Wolf

Cool Card Design of the Day
11/2/2017 - This card walks the line between utility and efficiency. A 2/2 for two is nothing amazing for a green uncommon, but it's relevant enough to play in Limited. If you're stuck on land, this can help you find it. It can do that multiple times, but very slowly and without card advantage. The result is intended to be a card you're okay main-decking that can help you out in some sticky situations.

CCDD 092617—treasure hunt

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/26/2017 - Ixalan's primary smoothing mechanic is explore, which can draw you a much-needed land or allow you to scry. Treasure can help fix your colors but not until mid- to late-game because it's hard to get on anything cheap. I'm musing about a cycling-for-treasure mechanic.

CCDD 090617—prism

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/6/2017 - Prism is going to look underwhelming in the light of Ixalan's treasure tokens, but it's not hard to imagine a block that wants similar color-fixing without the danger of mana rituals. And this is much safer and cheaper to put on cards.

CCDD 090517—Skymill

Cool Card Design of the Day
9/5/2017 - Exert and land can be friends. This is the tip of the iceberg.

CCDD 082917—Regal Bastion & Raider's Encampment

Cool Card Design of the Day
8/29/2017 - There are numerous ways to restrict when a land can best fix your colors, but one we've seen almost none of is the timing restriction. Today's card pairs a timing restriction with an event that you usually have no control over but can generally expect regardless:

CCDD 050217—Staff of Wisdom

Cool Card Design of the Day
5/2/2017 - Staff of Wisdom is a hybrid between color-fixing like Mana Prism and card advantage like Jayemdae Tome. I was thinking about ways to let a deck play out differently more, and using your opponent's deck is the perfect resource.

CCDD 031017—Virgin Territory

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/10/2017 - As a bonus CCDD, here's a City of Brass for players without access to a lot of dual lands.

CCDD 030917—Vacant Mansion

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/9/2017 - We don't usually want to reward players for doing nothing (because if the reward is substantial enough, they will, and nothing ain't fun), but helping a player comeback from a position where they can't do anything seems reasonable.

Walk with me.

CCDD 030717—City of Aspiration & City of Industry

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/7/2017 - Here's a simple take on a land that levels up after some use. You can use it immediately, and it starts fixing your mana later.

CCDD 030317—Bad Cairns

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/3/2017 - Here's a bonus CCDD I made before MaRo's review of dual lands, but is sure relevant to the filter lands he discussed.

CCDD 030217—Fast or Colorful Bog/Land & Yoyo Bog

Cool Card Design of the Day
3/2/2017 - Inspired by MaRo's review of dual lands, in particular the ability to choose to use your land immediately or let it enter the battlefield tapped… How about a dual land that ETBT, unless you need the mana immediately (and colorless will do)?

CCDD 022317—Eager Vassal

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/23/2017 - At first blush, this will look like a tamed Spellwild Ouphe, but its true purpose is to allow players to splash auras and combat tricks in a deck that would have trouble playing them otherwise.

CCDD 021417—Adventure Trail

Cool Card Design of the Day
2/14/2017 - This first Adventure Trail came from the idea of some terrible dual lands from Magic's dark years, I think. If you really need color, you can get it and this turn, but you'll be down a land next turn.

CCDD 011016—Hail the Pantheon of Dragons

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/10/2017 - Using Manamorphose as a model for a 'free' combat trick. Of course, the real trick is whether to cast this before combat or find another instant effect to fuel with it.

CCDD 010317—Seedcaster

Cool Card Design of the Day
1/3/2017 - I love the way that Eager Construct smooths the game for everyone. The game needs smoothing, and making cards that smooth for everyone but are still worth playing (sometimes) helps make smoothing happen more. That said, fully symmetrical effects can feel a little bad when they help your opponent more than you; So can we make a card that can smooth for everyone that needs it, but clearly benefits its caster most?

CCDD 113016—Tigra's Guidance

Cool Card Design of the Day
11/30/2016 - A couple of mana-fixing-until-you-don't-need-it commons.
