Tesla: About Double Face

Welcome back, everyone! Last time on Tesla, we discussed Kicker variants for Tesla. One of the big possibilities we discussed was a mechanic called Discovery (now being called 'Develop'), which utilized double-faced card technology for its unique take on Kicker. This week, we're going to discuss the role of DFCs in Tesla, and what approaches we could take regarding them.

Tesla: Playtest Engineering I: Structure

This article is WotC safe.
Hello again, everybody! I hope you've all been enjoying your holidays, and that you continue to do so! Now, back to business. This week, I'll be starting a three-part series on designing an all commons playtest, from start to finish. First off, we'll be discussing the overall structure of a playtest set, and how one can use concepts like as-fan to help quickly create such a structure, using our custom collaborative set Tesla as an example. (The lessons in this article are great for anyone looking to design a set, though!)

Tesla: Grand Unifying Queries

Hello everyone! Last time, we began refining the candidate mechanics for Tesla. This is an important part of the design process, and it deserves a lot of constant attention. We're going to be spending the rest of design polishing up these candidate mechanics to be the best they can be, so we're going to be using 'Our Refinery', last week's article, as the place for all this discussion. For this reason, this week's article will have its comments closed, and I'd like you all to comment on Our Refinery's comments please.

Now I'd like to shine the spotlight on what I think are currently the most important questions about Tesla's candidate mechanics.

Tesla: Self-Improvement

Hello again, everyone! As we've been looking at the mechanics that Tesla can use to represent its themes of progress, one big idea keeps coming up: players themselves progressing and improving over the course of the game. This week, let's reflect on some 'self-improvement' mechanics you all have designed, try to improve them further, and perhaps design some more mechanics capturing the same themes as well.
