6/19/2013 - While searching Deviant Art for another phoenix design, I found this colorful illustration. It's not as bad-ass as Magic's other phoenixes, but it was begging to have {W}{U}{B}{R}{G} somewhere on the card and I wanted to find out where.
I quickly settled on this being a mono-red card that you could resurrect with all five colors, but I kept feeling like it wanted to come back bigger when you did that. Sunburst later and we've got Chromatic Phoenix:

This feels off to me. Sunburst is supposed to reward you for having a larger color diversity (Sunburst cards make sense in 3-color decks just fine) but the resurrection ability *forces* you to have all 5 colors, so you feel bad if you don't.
ReplyDeleteSeems a bit close to Worldheart Phoenix to be particulary exciting, though I do like the idea of sunburst on colored cards, seems like it could make for some interesting stuff.
ReplyDeleteWow, it is REALLY similar to Worldheart Phoenix. Not sure how I forgot that one.

ReplyDeletePart of me thinks this is funnier at less than 5cmc, that way you get 5/5 if you cast if from your graveyard.
