Challenge #7: Don't Call it a Comeback

Show of hands: how many people responded to the news of Return to Ravnica with an intense mixture of nostalgia, excitement, and lust?  Yeah, that's what I thought.  It's like getting friended on facebook by your unattainable high school crush, who then immediately writes, "I miss you so much.  We need to hang out!" on your wall.

(NB: I'm using my imagination here.  If this has actually happened to you, please mention in the comments whether the experience was similar to the announcement of Return to Ravnica.)

Anyway, I have a Ravnica-related challenge burning a hole in my metaphorical pocket, and we'd better get to it this summer before any previews start!

Your challenge is to replace one of the ten guild mechanics from the original Ravnica block.  Your new keyword or ability word should be a mechanical and flavorful fit for the guild as portrayed by its non-keyworded cards.  Demonstrate your mechanic on two cards, at least one of which is common, with both of your guild's colors represented.  Hybrid and gold are allowed.  Judging will ignore the quality of the keyword you're replacing; both Convoke (which was awesome) and Radiance (which was lame) are equal candidates.  Your new mechanic should be appropriate for New World Order commons.

E-mail your cards to tweetforcealpha@gmail.com by midnight (Pacific Time) on Wednesday, July 11.  The winners will be posted sometime in the following week.  This challenge is open to everyone.  One entry per person.  Please specify your preferred name or pseudonym.  Entries may be edited slightly for consistent templating.  If you are interested in having your submission publicly critiqued, put the word "critique" in the subject line of your e-mail.

  1. We could probably make a new set with all the different submissions. Should be good. Short deadline though. I'll get right to it!

    1. Would people prefer longer periods of time for these challenges? Discuss!

    2. Restrictions breed creativity! Next challenge should read "from the time you finish this sentence, you have exactly one hour to compose a design".

    3. Yowch, that is short. Thanks for mentioning - I might not have even got around to entering until later in the week if I hadn't given it a go.

@HavelockV: I think I'd prefer a bit more than 2 days. The "set Monday, deadline Friday" pattern of a couple of earlier challenges worked well for me.

Excellent idea for a challenge though. I'll look forward to seeing what we get.

    4. Note that this challenge was given on Friday, so ostensibly there were five days. But I suppose people don't read GA much over the weekend?

  2. Can we submit a non-keyworded card in addition to (or instead of) the keyworded pair to demonstrate the mechanical relationship you mention?

    1. I'd rather not change the rules after some submissions are already in.

  3. In retrospect there was plenty of time. 5 days is a lot for one challenge. Perhaps Mon-Fri would get more attention.

    1. Next time, I'll make the due date Friday even if the challenge gets posted before Monday.
