Cool Card Design of the Day 12/4/2013 - Unfortunately, this card can't use the fight action word, but it does offer green some nice flexibility: It can be used to gang up on one big opposing creature when necessary, or it can let you kill two birds with one enormous stone.
How about having the spell do all the damage? "Choose two target creatures you control. ~ deals damage to target creature you don't control equal to the total power of those two creatures, then ~ deals damage equal to that creature's power divided as you choose among those two creatures."
That misses out on the flexibility Jay mentions though. But it's kinda fiddly to say "Choose two target creatures with the same controller and another target creature with a different controller. ~ deals damage to the third creature equal to the total power of the first two creatures, then deals damage equal to the third creature's power divided as that creature's controller chooses among those two creatures." Bleh, mouthful-and-a-half!
Target creature fights target creature owned by another player, then fights another target creature owned by another player.
If you target a big guy your opponent has that you want dead, you can select two of your medium guys. Or you can select your one big guy and two of the opponents small guys. does this work?
It works and is cleaner too, but it's not the same: The one big guy gets to deal its full power in damage twice, once to each creature. Which is a bit less intuitive, even if it's easier to write/read.
I wonder if they could simply update the rules for fight to handle multi-fight.
Yeah, I think they ought to just fix the rules to allow fighting any number of creatures. It's really annoying that wither and infect mean that even when they do get around to that, they can't retroactively apply that wording to Polukranos and Master of the Wild Hunt.
I like this. Wizards needs to change the fight template to allow for these things because it makes it seem so, so much more complicated than it is.
"Two target creatures fight target creature controlled by another player." Then, in the reminder text you explain how they have to assign damage, and you keep it like ordering blockers, however that would be phrased. People would get it.
I like this. It eats up a lot of complexity points for an uncommon, though.
