Happy Friday, Artisans! Click through to see this weekend's design parameters. With those as your guidelines, design a custom magic card. Over the course of the weekend, give feedback to your fellow designers on their designs, and incorporate their feedback to iterate on your own. If I have time over the course of next week, I will try to offer some of my own feedback.
I hope that our general audience knows this at this point, but if you're going out, wear a mask. Seriously.
In that spirit, design a non-creature with the cardname, "Mask of [the] _____________"
Good luck, have fun, and I'll see you all Monday.
Mask of the Berserker 3G
ReplyDeleteEnchantment - Aura (Rare)
Enchant creature you control
Enchanted creature has indestructible and gets +X/+0, where X is its base power.
At the beginning of your end step, sacrifice enchanted creature unless you pay 2.
When CARDNAME leaves the battlefield, sacrifice enchanted creature.
Oops, mana cost here should be lower-- 1G probably.
DeleteVery cool. Other than the nostalgia of Berserker, I don't see why this should be a green card. This ability seems much more Red, maybe Rakdos. Would an infection flavor work here as well? Sacrifice is mandatory, but you can move it to another creature you control if you want upon sacrifice (or even not optional. See Breath of Fury, Necrotic Plague, and Nettlevine Blight.)
DeleteI am a bit late but here goes:
ReplyDeleteMask of Anonymity 1U
Enchantment - Aura (Uncommon)
Enchant Opponent
Whenever you draw a card, enchanted player Mills two cards.
An intentional riff on Sphix's Tutelage style cards that have become pretty common and only will become a bigger trope with the Mill keyword.
It's a fun design, but not exactly treading any new ground here. Like you said, Sphinx's Tutelage and friends have done this exact effect, other than limiting to a single opponent.
DeleteI really like the cardname, and would be interested to see a rare or mythic that better captures the sense of a single player becoming anonymous, unidentifiable.
This idea really spoke to me, so here goes.
DeleteMasks of Anonymity 1UU
Enchantment
Flash
Masks of Anonymity enter the battlefield with three mask counters.
Whenever a spell or ability targets a player, you may remove a mask counter from Masks of Anonymity and pay 3 life. If you do, redirect that spell or ability.
I'm not sure what the power level of this card is, but it has a lot of knobs to tweak that. I think part of the problem is that it could be kind of narrow, it's very good against targeted discard (though I have to admit I'm not sure how it interacts with "target opponent", and it's pretty sweet against targeted card draw (maybe it should be able to steal non-targeted draw as well, though that would be pretty wordy, and perhaps not make so much sense flavourwise). It also has some application against burn, since even though you still lose life you can redirect the damage to their creatures.
