Hey Artisans! Click through to see this weekend's design challenge. Your mission is to design a custom Magic card that follows the guidelines. Over the course of the weekend, give feedback to your fellow designers on their designs and incorporate their feedback to iterate on your own. I'll try to offer some feedback of my own starting on Monday.
This week's challenge is to design an uncommon card that creates one or more Treasure tokens. For bonus points, make it support a Limited theme other than "Treasures matter"-- that is, more like Heartless Pillage and less like Deadeye Plunderers or Ruthless Knave.
Good luck and have fun!

Enchantment – Aura
Enchant creature or artifact
Enchanted permanent is a Treasure artifact and loses all other card types.
"You wish for your weight in gold? Very well."
Not technically a token but I think it's in the spirit of the challenge.
Very cool riff on One with the Stars, although like that, it may be complex enough to warrant uncommon. Not sure power-wise if this is weaker than it looks, like with Bind the Monster, or if the drawback is not that big of a deal.
DeleteInteresting-- precedents like Compulsory Rest make me think this belongs in white but I could also see a case for blue or black. I'd never considered nontoken Treasures as a possibility but if Food can be nontoken, why not? Definitely some cool stuff going on here and creates an interesting choice for, say, control decks that want removal but risk giving the opponent tempo.
DeleteGild the Guildless RB
ReplyDeleteDestroy target minocolored creature. Its owner creates a treasure token.
This feels more Orzhov to me.
DeleteYes! Damnit I thought I had changed it. That was the intent.
DeleteMakes total sense as an Orzhov card. Though I'm a little surprised the Orzhov would give anyone else the treasure (as opposed to the original Gild).

At the beginning of your upkeep, you may reveal a multicolored card from your hand. If you do, create a Treasure token.

I so wanted this to be a Gold Hoarder for the multicolor joke.
DeleteA treasure every turn is a lot of value, but it seems like an appropriate payoff (in the right environment) for building a deck around this. It's really clever that the reward also fixes your mana so you can cast those multicolor spells sitting in your hand.
