Cool Card Design of the Day
1/9/2013 - Relentless Assault is a rare but classic effect. Red loves attacking so why not let it do more every once in a while.
Aurelia is the latest Assault on a stick (which is a very small list) and got me thinking about other possibilities for creatures that give you extra combat steps. The biggest concern is the potential power any repeatable effect can grant, so I wanted to make a creature that grants you just one extra attack. Then I thought about that literally:
Mogg Rally Chief lets you attack with one of your creatures an extra time. It didn't need haste, but it just felt so much more right. This creature's jumping into play after your first attack and shouting "Did I miss the fun? Let's go again, Mr. Craw Wurm!"
I would put some sort of safeguard on him because of Momentary Blink and its ilk, but otherwise seems interesting.
ReplyDeleteFun card! But you've redesigned Seize the Day as an ETB trigger.
ReplyDelete(I do think your version is superior, though.)
DeleteI'm pretty okay with that.
DeleteHee! I like it. It's a little counter-intuitive at first, but I like it a lot and think it'd be worth it. :)
ReplyDeleteWhile I still like this card very much in a vacuum, it's clearly a missed opportunity that it specifically does not combo with Battalion. I wasn't suggesting this card for Ravnica, but nonetheless we can take my oversight as an example of a designer trap: I could have made a slightly simpler card that looks great next to a recently spoiled mechanic, but instead chose cleverness and innovation; that was almost certainly the wrong choice.
