Cool Card Design of the Day
7/18/2013 - I'm traveling through Sunday, so I scheduled this early. Enva is simply meant to be an appealing legend for white-blue, that can turn around a game that's gone wrong in terms of life and/or cards. I wouldn't be shocked to learn it's too strong, particularly in Turbo Fog.
I feel like there needs to be a drawback here....because the implications are just crazy.
ReplyDeleteMaybe that or instead of gaining life or drawing cards equal to what the opponent has, you simply draw/gain life equal to the difference between yours and theirs?
This way, it's a balancing mechanic rather than one that would outright win you a game you were close to losing.
I would support changing it to gain/draw equal to the difference, like a combined Arbirter of Knollridge & Slithermuse.
DeleteI agree it should be difference because, power level aside, it feels really weird that being 1 less than the opponent is ten times as good as being on par.
DeleteThis either needs to be a cast trigger or a when entering the battlefield from your hand trigger, cause it's waaaaaaay too good to be in the flickering colors as is.
ReplyDeleteA very good point.
DeleteCombos with yesterday's CCDD quite well. Intentional?
ReplyDeleteIf you want to keep this super powerful - rather than Knollridge-Slithermuse like James suggested above - I'd make it a pair of cards instead. A white one that gains life and a blue one that draws cards could both still be very appealing mythic legends.

When ~ enters the battlefield from your hand, if you have less life than target opponent, gain life equal to his or her life total.

If you're making a Legendary creature with an ability that only works from your hand, you're going to be actively irritating Commander players.
DeleteObvious error on my part. Make that "when you cast ~" instead? That feels far too strong, but I don't know a good alternative. Maybe "when ~ dies" triggers?

When you cast ~, if you control fewer creatures than target opponent, put X 4/4 (Elemental? Spirit? Snakefolk?) creature token onto the battlefield, where X is the number of creatures that opponent control.

I made this to mirror Pasteur submissions, but I think it plays better if deals with the difference, like James Bortolotti said.
