2/13/2014 - I'm not remotely suggesting Zhur-Taa Druid should have been different, only that this is another way to make a red-green mana dude.
This might be broken—not sure—it's definitely very strong in the right deck. Getting a free 1/1 out of your Pyretic Ritual isn't unreasonable, but getting an Elvish Mystic out of it just might be. What do you think?
Getting a 3-drop on turn 2 is good. Getting a 4-drop on turn 3 is good. One card that lets you do both is really, really good.
ReplyDeleteElvish Mystic does both of those...
DeleteLiving the dream:
ReplyDeleteT1 Forest, Elvish Mystic
T2 Mountain, Taa-Zhur Druid, signet, signet, signet
T3 Any land, 8-drop
Wow, Wizards has never printed a red/green mana elf with haste. Seems like such a design gimme. Filing that away in my brain for the next GDS.
ReplyDeleteSo... RG for 1/1 haste, T: add G? It's a little bit awkward curve-wise, but I guess you could go Elvish Mystic into this, another 2-drop, which is pretty neat.
DeleteI Guess This Is Green GG
DeleteCreature - Elf Druid (u)
Haste, vigilance
T: Add G to your mana pool.
1/1
Not Much Room For Play At These Costs {G}
DeleteCreature - Elf Druid (c)
As long as you control a Mountain, ~ has haste.
{T}: Add {G} or {R} to your mana pool.
0/1
Is drawing two in your opening hand too good?
DeleteAlternatively:
Hybrid Elf Thing {RG}
When ~ enters the battlefield, if you control a Mountain, add {R} to your mana pool.
{T}: Add {G} to your mana pool. Activate this ability only if you control a Forest.
1/1
Efficient Worker G
DeleteCreature- Elf C
Haste
t: Add 1 to your mana pool.
0/1
I'm with Evan. As a ritual with upside this is too good, but make it pay for itself like Burning-Tree Emissary / Priest of Urabrask and it seems like it would be very reasonable.
ReplyDeleteThis card is such an enormous beating!
ReplyDeleteThe lack of symmetry here bothers me. I want to be able to play my Centaur Courser off this, and I cant. Maybe we could have:
DeleteZTD 1RG
Creature - Elf Druid
When ~ ETBs, at RRGG to your mana pool.
T: Add R or G to your mana pool.
2/2
What about a 1/1 costing RG and adding RG on ETB? Then it would be the Arbor Elf to Burning-Tree Emissary's Isamaru... or something like that.
DeleteMaking the ritual effect scale would make it look attractive, without causing too much ramp without help. I'd like to see this card in a tribal block with R/G Elves:
ReplyDeleteElvish Ritualist {1}{R}
Creature - Elf Shaman
When ~ enters the battlefield, add {R} to your mana pool for each Elf you control.
1/1
Horrible pun (and mildly interesting card):
ReplyDeleteTa-Zer Druid 1RG
Creature- Elf Druid (Uncommon)
1/1
T: Add R to your mana pool. CARDNAME deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
Copier Elf (rare)
ReplyDelete{2}{R}{G}
Creature - Elf
{T}: Add {R} or {G} to your mana pool. If that mana is spent on an instant or sorcery spell, copy that spell. You may choose new targets for the copy.
2/2
I really like the idea behind this card, and I think it would just need to be checked. Any fixes make it more complex, and I like the elegance. Maybe RR is enough.
