Cool Card Design of the Day 8/3/2015 - Using Miming Slime tech to differentiate black's kill-and-reanimate from blue's Mind Control. Also making an expensive piece of removal that will still excite players, at least in Limited.
To me, the mecahnics here make this feel so disconnected from the theme (I needed the flavor text to see there was a theme). This really feels like it should Exile, and then be Duplicant, so you get an X/Y but the creature has lost all its abilities because it is a zombie.
Square stats are preferable for tokens. In this case there is really no need. The opponent will remember being traumatically blown out by this card enough to know the Power/Toughness of the new creature.
I like the idea. Like a few other people, I didn't get the name, but "kill it and reanimate the corpse" is a good black concept. Exiling might be better but I don't think is necessary.
Would it be simpler as a fixed-size creature that kills on ETB? (Or is that too reusable?)
Or play the mechanics up more with "Destroy target creature. // Exile a creature card from its controller's graveyard, then put an X/X token OTB where X is its toughness."

ReplyDeleteThat's a good solution too.
DeleteWhy both equal to toughness instead of power equal to power/toughness equal to toughness Ritual of the Returned style? Memory? Wordiness? Rarity?
ReplyDeletememory, probably. Non-square stats on a token is horrific
DeleteYup. Square stats are nearly required for tokens.

That last idea is quite good.
DeleteIt's Duplicant, but less splashable and much less blinkable. Which is probably a good thing.
