Weekend Art Challenge
Greetings,
artisans! Click through to see this weekend's art and the design
requirements for your single card submission, due Monday morning. Every
submission warrants feedback, and everyone is encouraged to give
feedback. You may use that feedback to revise your submission any number
of times, though only the version rendered will be included in the
review, if someone volunteers to render the cards.
Design a rare card for this art. What's the setting? How does that impact your design?
Oooh, I think I know what setting this matches best. Nice one, Jay!

Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature card in a graveyard
3B, Sacrifice Ankh-Teb Death Mask: Put enchanted creature card onto the battlefield tapped with a +1/+1 counter on it.
Heirophant of Kutek 1BB
ReplyDeleteCreature - Spirit Cleric (R)
Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control from a graveyard, put a +1/+1 counter on Heirophant of Kutek.
B, Remove a +1/+1 counter from Heirophant of Kutek: Draw a card.

Context: Egyptian setting with Unearth as a returning mechanic in the set.
Aura nailed it with the agent Egyptian setting, I tried to make a rare that built around a new mechanic I envisaged for it.
ReplyDeleteCoptic Necromancer 4BB
Creature -- Zombie Wizard
Afterlife (When this dies, if it had no +1/+1 counters on it, return it to the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it. As long as it has a +1/+1 counter on it, if it would deal damage to a player, instead that player puts that many cards from the top of their library into their graveyard.)
Creatures you control have afterlife.
Whenever a creature you control with a +1/+1 counter on it attacks, it gets +1/+1 UEOT.

Deathtouch, menace
When CARDNAME deals combat damage to a player, that player loses the game unless he or she discards a card.
Top-down design. Anyone recognize it?
Deathtouch + menace + 2 power is an evil combination.
DeleteTo 3BB, otherwise this would be strictly better than Catacomb Slug in like 5 different ways.
DeleteStatue of Death- 4
ReplyDeleteArtifact- rare
Creatures can't attack you unless their controller sacrifices a creature.
To cross, a sacrifice must be made.

ReplyDeleteArtifact Creature - Golem Zombie Cleric
2B, Tap: Return target creature card in your graveyard to the battlefield with a statue counter on it. It's a noncreature artifact.
2RR: Each artifact with a statue counter on it you control becomes a creature until end of turn and gains haste until end of turn.
3/4
A world with Necron-like terra cotta legions from ancient empires re-awakening and attacking a modern civilization. This is one of the marquee cards of that faction; at common, there would be red and black golem zombie artifact creatures, probably with unearth or something similar, but this is an outline of what the faction was doing.
Eternal Decay 1BB
ReplyDeleteSorcery (R)
All creatures get -2/-2 until end of turn.
Timeless 4BB (You may cast this spell for its timeless cost. If you do, change its text by removing all instance of “until end of turn” and exile it as it resolves.)
“I punish you not with death, but eternal lingering on it's precipice.”
—Vila, Achronomancer
I recognize this mechanic from the custom block Esperand.
DeleteYes full credits to AdventMTG for the mechanic.
DeleteMortis Priest 3BB
ReplyDeleteEnchantment Creature - Zombie Cleric (R)
Menace
Afterlife (When this creature dies, return it to the battlefield under your control. It's no longer a creature.)
At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, if that player controls more creatures than you, that player sacrifices a creature.

Mandias Returned 2BB
ReplyDeleteLegendary Creature - Soldier
Flash
You may play CARDNAME only if a creature died during the combat phase this turn.
All damage is leathal.

This is the leader of a death-preaching cult. In this set, black and white tokens is very present, and this is one of the important cards in the archetype.
I've had no time this week to join in, but I will happily make the renders.
ReplyDeleteHere they are.
DeleteThanks, Piersabato
