Hello Artisans, Anastase here. This week is my birthday! So we are doing something strange:
Design a card for me.
Here are some tips on what I like:
I mainly play Commander and limited formats.
I love mill, +1/+1 counters matters and rules that totally change how an aspect of the game plays (Doran, Phenax, Silent Arbiter).
I love interaction. There is nothing worse to me than an opponent with whom I do not get to interact.
I like flavorful cards that give a new but on-color way to deal with problems each color has.
I love cards that make me reinterpret the card's image.
I dislike tutors.
I will judge the cards as though I did not know they were designed "for" me.
Based on these ideas please submit your design for one of the following arts:
ArchLimit |
oustins |
chrisnfy85 |
Carpet-Crawler |
Craft well, Artisans!
Eater of the Unborn {4}{B}
ReplyDelete[Carpet-Crawler]
Creature-Horror (rare)
{T}: Exile a number of cards from the top of target player's library equal to CARDNAME's power. For each creature card exiled this way, put a +1/+1 counter on ~.
3/4
The HORROR! This would slot right in my Phenax deck. It could also mill instead of exile, but I appreciate an answer to the original eldrazi titans.
DeleteCrystal Gazer 4BR
ReplyDelete[Carpet-Crawler]
Creature-Spirit Wizard (mythic)
Instants and sorceries not targeting Crystal Gazer have deathtouch.
Whenever an opponent casts an instant or sorcery that deals 1 or more damage, scry 4.
-1/7
I a slightly confused by the -1 strength. I would love the card even more if it had only the first ability which I find very enjoyable.
DeleteOk
DeleteCrystal Gazer 3BR
[Carpet-Crawler]
Creature-Spirit Wizard (mythic)
Instants and sorceries not targeting Crystal Gazer have deathtouch.
0/7
Combo with...Electropotence!
DeleteMwahahaha!
Thought about it a bit more and at that cost, a 0/7, even with that ability might not see that much play. I am not sure about the correct stats. It is not in a color combination that care about toughness that much.
DeleteMajestic Posturing 2GU
ReplyDeleteSorcery
All creatures must block target creature with the greatest power among creatures you control if able.
For which art is it? What rarity? Which of your two submission is your official submission?
DeleteI like the reevaluation of the first art this card gives, and would probably change it to creatures can only block target creature this turn.
The first art.
DeleteProbably uncommon, as it's simple to understand yet not something that should be getting thrown around all the time.
The reason it's not just target creature is that the idea is that everybody focuses on the big bad monster while his little minions go unnoticed.
It could be changed to target creature with power 4 or greater, though.
The official submission should probably be the top one.
Lin-Yi, Great Historian 5UU [Archlimit]
ReplyDeleteFlying, vigilance
Play with the top card of your library revealed.
T: Put the top card of each player’s library into their graveyard. If two or more of those cards share a type, exile Lin-Yi, Great Historian. Return it to the battlefield at end of turn.

He half protects himself. How does playing with your top of the library revealed help you with the second ability? Certainly better in multi-mlayer. I guess it is a mythic rare? The color is not very precise on the render.
DeleteI have a blindspot which may not be weird, but always seems to sneak up on me. I often create things iteratively, and an older version of the text used the foreknowledge.
DeleteHaving pondered it a bit, I changed it to:
Lin-Yi, Great Historian 5UU
Legendary Creature - Sphinx [Mythic]
Flying, vigilance
You may look at the top card of your library.
T: Name a card type, then each player puts the top card of their library into their graveyard. If the type you named appeared the most or was tied for appearing the most, exile Lin-Yi, Great Historian. Return it to the battlefield at end of turn. It gains haste.
5/6
Briefly.
DeleteVigilance isn't that blue, but I didn't want the defensive ability to have a lenticular milling function. Also, if you could activate it multiple times, the guessing would become tedious very quickly. So, tap ability plus vigilance.
Haste is almost antithetical to blue, but that's because it helps creatures attack quickly. Lin-Yi returns at end-step, so if you exile it during your turn, it can't attack, but any other time it flickers it will always be back by the beginning of the next turn. HOWEVER, it will not always be able to activate its tap ability, and the point of interaction is meant to be the guessing game, so having your opponent get around that with an instant feels muddy. If there was a keyworded Thousand-Year Elixir ability, I'd have used that.

Reprint: Chained to the Rocks (oustins art)
ReplyDeleteAlso, not a bad thing, but I know we've had the ArchLimit art here before.
Perfect reprint. And yes, you are right, but I like that art, and people get to choose another art if they have already designed for that one.
DeleteCorrupt Arbiter {3}{W}{U}{B}
ReplyDelete[ArchLimit Art]
Creature - Sphinx (Mythic)
Flying
At the beginning of each opponent’s combat, chose a player other than the active player. Until end of turn, creatures can attack only the chosen player or a planeswalker he or she controls.
5/5
This one is cool in multi-player but not all that interesting in a duel (even duel commander). Even worse, imagine what happens when someone clones it? The game grinds to a standstill. Pillowfort lovers will love it, but I fear that it would bring lots of hate with it.
DeleteYou're right, as is it would be both too oppressive in multiplayer, and meaningless in 1v1.
DeleteUpdate:
Corrupt Arbiter 2WUB
[ArchLimit Art]
Creature - Sphinx (Mythic)
Flash, flying
When Corrupt Arbiter enters the battlefield, choose a player. Until end of turn, creatures can attack only the chosen player or a planeswalker he or she controls.
