CCDD 110215—Spell Forest 3b

Cool Card Design of the Day
11/2/2015 - I was brainstorming spell lands a few weeks back and was iterating on a few ideas, toward an alternative to the very good Looming Spires and Teetering Peeks spell land cycles. Specifically, it was evident that we could have a more impactful effect if, like more expensive spells, it only worked when you had more mana or lands. A large activation cost worked, but if it's repeatable, the effect must be fairly small, so I considered a land that did something when you sacrificed it, rather then when it ETB'd. That's cool, but fights with the goal of having enough mana to cast Eldrazi. Let me show you my final iteration before I share my conclusion:

CCDD 101415—An alternative to devoid

Cool Card Design of the Day
10/14/2015 - I'm not convinced devoid was a mistake. Even so, it's an engaging challenge to find alternative solutions to the problem: Make a bunch of colorless creatures without breaking down the segregation of playable cards the color pie offers.

Zeffrikommons, Part 3: Cyclical Behavior

In the Modern Orthodox Jewish synagogues I attend, during Rosh Hashanah prayers, someone stands next to the person leading the prayers and, at specific times during the services, sounds a shofar. A shofar is a hollowed-out ram's horn akin to a single-note trumpet. It is used briefly at various points during the primary services on Rosh Hashanah, but at the end of the services, a long series of note-patterns is sounded, roughly equal in length to all the other times the shofar was sounded earlier in the services.

Zeffrikar Exploratory Design Part 1: Past as Prologue

This is the first part of my Design Vision Document for the set, what is going to be the rough equivalent of R&D's Exploratory Design. Obviously nothing is set in stone (Zendikar jokes), and I'll probably change direction more than a few times over the life of this project, but at least at the outset, here are the ideas I’m going to be keeping in mind before setting up a skeleton and doing a first pass at the commons.
